  • The difference between Whyte and Wong

Not much last night - they were both unstoppable.

Personally, I'd much rather have Whyte here for the next ten years that Haas here for a year or two before he pisses off to union.

I would love DCE / Walker to work on getting Mr Wong into holes.

That young bloke from NZ - ' something the wrecker ' looks fantastic when running into holes. A real hell dude.

Yeah I thought Wong was huge last night. Did a really solid job containing Fifita and had some strong carries on that edge too. He’s a bit of an odd one though — he’ll put together games like that and look the goods, then go a bit quiet for a stretch. Keen to see if he can build some consistency over the next few rounds and really lock down that starting spot, especially with Rads to come back.

Whyte was outstanding again as well. Every carry he takes he is so hard to put down!! The next step for him is developing an offload

I thought Wong built a very good base last year in terms of work rate in defence and attack and was a little surprised he didn't get back into the starting side upon return from injury.

In Round 1 & Round 2 though he seems to be more physically dominant in contact, often breaking a tackle or being able to get his ball carrying arm free. Given his skills it wouldn't surprise me if we now start to see more offloads and creativity from him with the space he's making for himself by being able to create some space for himself in contact.

I think we just need to let him settle at right edge, he looks comfortably our best option there.

I was really disappointed with what Gus offered up in attack again last night, even though he did some great work defensively.

At the end of the day all the players we have are good & when you watch them live & we win you can see how good they are but being able to do it every week is another story.

I think the difference is that Whyte very rarely makes a mistake and does something stupid. Wong still has a habit of giving away a silly penalty or 2 and doing something silly with the ball. Both were massive last night though in terms of their carries.

I wished he could run into a hole, he always runs at defenders and on the odd time be breaks a tackle, he just turns and runs side ways. Needs to work on running at gaps.

Funnily enough I mentioned Wong starting last week but quickly got shot down.

Wong should be starting over Nat
robbo pushed him in the middle to improve his d and work rate before giving him the spot last year
looked good last night and I think he can go further with abit more line running and footwork into contact which will hopefully come

I hope he kicks on the right edge as we need the bigger body out wide

Tbh I was disappointed not to see him round one there as we have been waiting for him to explode post all the hype and Nat butch while being solid is just about that
especially with critchon going next year we need Wong to be dominate on the right
unfortunately for Angus just has not been consistent enough because at his best he is just about the best in the comp

Wong is a better defender, he has better footwork and lateral movement but Whyte is more consistent, has more of a power game and dare I say he's already the pack leader and there isn't much of a drop off with performances like we can get with Wong.

If Wong can raise his performance floor he'll be one of the top forwards in the comp. This needs to be Wong's breakout year like last year was for Whyte, there's a great player in him it just needs to be released consistently and he needs to back up the performance next week and the week after like Whyte does.
