Who's the best player we've ever poached?

Feel like Im giving a 3-2-1 but..
Freddy - an elite. Changed the role of the captain and off field leader (once he matured as a person himself), set a new standard for others.
Teddy - a champion in any era.
Kez - a magic moment when he crossed over from the dark side. I see him as one of the greats, still under -rated.

It's the truth. In interviews, he's so condescending and thinks he speaks with a gravitas that would make Tina Arena blush.Originally posted by Avalon Rooster View Post

She reckons he was one of the rudest, most arrogant and pig headed people she ever met
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Every time it comes up it means I have to dig into my memory bank which is not as bountiful as it used to be.Originally posted by Duchess_of_Bondi View Post
What's the issue here? We have some new forum members and it would be good to get their opinion as well. I've pretty much gone and hit the like button on most of the posts in this thread and I can't remember the last time I did that.1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs

. Think of the positives. Look at how much success we've had over the past few decades and how many great players we can discuss in these kinds of threads. The good far outweigh the embarrassing ones from the likes of 2009 etc..aka as the year I stopped listening to sports radio programmes...
I'm in a family group chat with my adult nieces, all Parra fans, and just reminded them no grand final win in 40 years..yikes..
Ooh there's a thought..lots of great players from both clubs there too, particularly in the 1970's and 80's.

I do, they're here on Friday arvo. I'll play the 9 hole afternoon comp, then head down. Local kids here are chomping at the bit in anticipation. What a great initiative it is from Freddy. Lots of people talk the talk about footy in the bush, but he actually does something. Good on you for spreading the word Duchess. We barely have a local paper here, it's all facebook now, thank god the Mrs is on that in my absence. Ricky Stuart was down here yesterday running a training session for the Bay Tigers squad.Originally posted by Duchess_of_Bondi View Post

Craig Salvatori did say he was a Souths Junior but not wanted - not sure if means playing in junior reps sides ? would have been around 18 or 19 when he had that trial at the Roosters.
Now I know where the chip and chase came from
•Ok... let's get back to football... you were a Souths junior?
I was... and Souths didn't want me (laughs). I was a Souths junior but (former Roosters coach) Russell Fairfax spotted me playing for the Dunbar Hotel in the local comp. He gave me a trial. It was 1985 and I remember I did a chip and chase and put the winger over for a try - they gave me a $2000 contract just about on the spot.

Great call. Fulton is an immortal. Freddy will never be an immortal. Nor will Teddy, but he's closer than Freddy. Keary not even close.Originally posted by The Bondi spy View PostBob Fulton. He may have decimated our club when he went back to manly and his stint with us was impacted with injury. But the question was best player we have poached and the guy is an immortal

Hmmm, i wonder if you could throw in Kevin Hastings in that category then, he actually played for Mt Carmel in Waterloo when he was very young but then came through the ranks at Easts at St Marys Cathedral.Originally posted by David Sutherland View PostCraig Salvatori did say he was a Souths Junior but not wanted - not sure if means playing in junior reps sides ? would have been around 18 or 19 when he had that trial at the Roosters.
