  • Could Makasini be our future Fullback?

Best young talent I've seen in ages! Twice the player SBW was at the same age. Played on the wing for the Tigers in the trails however centre is his preferred position.

I can see him eventually moving to fullback and could be the perfect replacement for Teddy.

    18 years old
    105 kg
    6' 4"

I'd go $ 4 mill over 4 years or whatever it takes to get it done.

    Get the dog

I hope the Tigers keep him.

He’s looked pretty bloody good in both trials and if his progress continues, he could be anything. As we’ve seen with Latrell, a great centre or winger doesn’t necessarily translate to being a great fullback though. A replacement for Toups or Marky Mark definitely, TBA on replacing Teddy.

From memory. SBW was already pretty damn good at 18, even making the NZ side, so that’s a big call to say the young fella is twice as good. You could be right though.

And here I was thinking that you supported Souffs all this time.

I have a mate, born and bred Bondi Boy, LOVES footy but doesn't support a team.

        What a freak!

Steggs, trust me on this one mate.

P.S, Please don't morph into a different major sponsor, ever !

I love you just the way you are.

I think he will be much better in the outside backs than at fullback if he sees plenty of good ball. If he gets picked in the starting NRL side this year he will be up against much better defence than he saw in the trials but he still looks awesome.

More likely to end up in the second row than fullback.

Gut feeling or do you have data which goes back to 1908?

If you play for premierships you need to pull off the pro moves and entice talent like Makasini to your club.

Are we still a so called "Big Club"? No Haas, Tino, Keaon etc

We land Townsend, The Cheese, DCE, Space Cadet Dom Young.

                        No.

I rarely agree with Mick Lane on anything pretty much, but this premise I do. When a club (esp a battler) debuts a budding star I want them to keep that cat. We should be focussed on growing our own. Lots of coin tipped in to academies etc. Show us your spoils.

Why are we talking about poaching, yeah that word, a kid who’s only played 2 trial games when we’re developing our own these days? It’s good to see the perennial strugglers the Tigpies unearth a few young prospects. I have a long suffering sibling who’s a tigers supporter.

Assuming that by "poaching" you mean approach a player from another club within the parameters set out by the NRL and make an offer.

                            Is poaching legal. Yes

Do the Tigers poach players from other clubs. Yes

Do all clubs poach players from junior nurseries right through to the top. Yes

Are you at a disadvantage if you don't poach players. Yes

Is the West Tigers club poorly managed and widely referred to as a "basket case". Yes

Has the NRL bailed the Tigers out countless times. Yes

                            Is this our problem. No

Should we feel sorry for them. No

Were our 2013, 2018 and 2019 premiership winning teams a mixture of players that we poached and players that we developed. Yes

Are our facilities state of the art. Yes

Are the Tigers facilities 3rd world like. Yes

Can facilities and professionalism of a club influence a players decision when signing. Yes

Should we be proud of this and use it to our advantage. Yes

Woah..way too many points to respond to there. I used the term poaching tongue in cheek as every time we buy a player it’s called poaching and the old boring sombrero jokes are brought out. Yes, I like it when we buy good players and like all clubs we need to but this guy has barely played any games at all and yes he does look really good. But we’ve got our academy so let’s see if we can develop our own for now. We’ve been doing very well at this with the young forwards coming through. I don’t disagree with any of your points listed above by the way.
