Thats what it comes down to Avalon, its all luck. Yes sure you have to be a good football team to be a contender but when you come up against the other contenders you need luck (shit ton to go right).
The Chooks along with 7 other top sides Bronx, Storm, Sharks, Dogs, Raiders, Dolphins & Panthers have all got the players to win it if luck goes their way.

Rex looks solid for an 18 year old.

      From SMH
There will be tremendous pressure on Sydney Roosters’ skipper James Tedesco to play every NRL game for a second straight season because of the limited back-up fullback options at the club.
The Roosters are spoiled for choice in nearly every position, especially when you consider the arrival of representative key positional players Daly Cherry-Evans and Reece Robson.

Should Tedesco, 33, go down, which he has not in several seasons – including last year when he easily won the Dally M Medal – the club will be forced to turn to an unlikely trio: Cody Ramsey, who has not featured in the NRL for more than three years, potentially Wallabies-bound Mark Nawaqanitawase, or teen rugby sensation Rex Bassingthwaighte.
Bassingthwaighte will wear the No.1 jersey for the Roosters in Saturday’s trial against the Wests Tigers, and while he is being groomed as Tedesco’s long-term successor, he remains up to 18 months away from being a regular first-grader.

Tedesco was grateful he had avoided injury, but
also had faith in Ramsey, the St George Illawarra winger who was struck down by ulcerative colitis, and confined to a hospital bed for seven months.

“Cody has been outstanding, we’ve swapped in and out of training plenty of times, and he’s done an awesome job,” Tedesco said.

“To hear his story, and what he’s been through, and to now come back and play footy, it’s pretty special. He’s definitely stood out at training.
“Not only is he fast, but he’s tough, and gets in and has a go.

“He could even be that specialist back we put on the bench where if something does happen.”
Bassingthwaighte will start against the Tigers, with Tedesco and Ramsey to return for next weekend’s main trial against Parramatta.
Cherry-Evans and Robson are also expected to feature in the final hitout against the Eels. Even though he turns 37 next week, Cherry-Evans had led the way at training, and was even putting his hand up for extras, said Tedesco.

I'd be curious to know just how many threads we've had about Teddy over the years. 20 plus maybe???

I don't think I've been excited to see a youngster coming through the grades and anticipating his debut since Latrell I can't wait to see Rex get his crack but I don't think Robbo will play him at fullback if Teddy goes down it was very clear there's levels to NRL fitness when Latrell got his go (not an issue of weight when he was with us) I expect Marky Mark to go to fullback and Rodwell, Talau, possibly Rex get on the wing.

Yes, few individuals lead a side with that level of commitment combined with freakish skills. Maybe Reece. Trell might have been. Doubtful we win without him.

I don't think it could be Mark. He couldn't be trusted from a positioning perspective in defence and I don't think he has the ball skills either. I'd guess we'd go to NSW Cup.
Doesn’t have the ball skills? What have you been watching?

Toia? He could be good defensively. But I don't think I can remember him making a line break.

We need something to talk about.

                      Other than Trell.

Cody Ramsey is the immediate replacement at fullback or wing for the time being. Rex is definitely being groomed as Teddies replacement but he is probably at least 2 years away from being ready for full time NRL.

Without seeing how well Ramsay would fit in, I’d say we would struggle to make an impact in the finals without Teddy.

Biggest issue for Ramsey as a stop gap fullback is his weight. He weighs 82kg. That's rag doll material!

                          To put it into perspective

                          Keary 82 kg
                          Maloney 83 kg
                          Walker 78 kg
                          Cooper Cronk 89 kg

Even though I think Hugo is an organising halfback & is not a utility I would put him at FB if Teddy goes down.

There always exceptions to every rule. Jye Gray, 78kgs.
Anyway, Cody is also missing a big chunk of his lower intestines. He would probably be the same as Reece Walsh at 88kgs.

                                You’re not winning a comp with a fullback that’s 5 ft 7 in and weighs 78kg.

Gray will play five eighth next season when Cody Walker retires. Mitchell back to fullback.
