Its a tough one Batesy to know how much influence a coach or attacking coach has on the team during battle. The opposition plays the biggest part on how your team plays along with the bounce of the ball, luck & what the ref thinks.Originally posted by Bates View Post
There are no prizes for scoring the most points at seasons end. It's about formulating an attacking system that wins you games and wins you comps!
It's pointless playing high risk footy that scores maximum points when on the flip side you're turning over unnecessary possession through errors and losing games.
Attacking coaches need to understand the teams skillset and limits. They also need to factor in game management. E.g closing out games. Plan B when plan A isn't working etc . None of that was visible with Holbrook at the helm of our attack. Key for me is control and we definitely had zero control of our attack.
If I had to describe his coaching style it would be 'Back Yard Footy'. It was at it's best on Anzac Day and at it's worse against the Sharks when we were eliminated.
Ive heard players say that once they run out on the field they basically do what they want they play whats in front of them & make split second decisions & the coach doesnt even come into their minds.

No, he just has Haas. You said it yourself in your post.
Look at the Broncos 2025 premiership like a family size big ben pie that you cut into eighths. Each part being equal and essential to win a comp. Number them 1 to 8
Part 1. Quality balanced roster with depth and experience - Haas falls into this category as does Walsh, Reynolds, Hunt etc.
Part 2. Head coach and his assistance. Playing system etc.
Part 3. Luck - injuries and bounce of the ball......Broncos were very lucky against the Raiders!
There are 5 more parts that need to align for the Broncos to win a comp. It's not just about 1 player regardless of their ability.Last edited by Bates; 01-20-2026, 09:30 PM.

Fletcher Hunt is only 20 and plays the game with the maturity of a seasoned pro. He'll be a star of the game by the time he's 25 imo and will play loads of rep footy. Can play anywhere in the backline and imo a much better option than Sandon Smith in the halves.Originally posted by Mickie Lane View Post
Im going Bostock
Off contract at the end of 2027. I'd sign him and for 5 years.

Nick is too smart to do that, he leaves all that up to Robbo.Originally posted by A Country Member View PostNick is essentially on the coaching staff.
Robbo is the Roosters.
Nick puts very smart operators into positions of head coach or managers of his companies & lets them run it while he just gets feedback & holidays around the world.

Trent’s a company man, he appeases the boss, and that is Nick.Originally posted by Mickie Lane View Post

Nick would be a bigger Rooster’s fan that all of us on here. He would also understand footy play more than most and with that knowledge, he would sign players with Trent’s approval.

when I look at all the BS happening at other clubs, it makes me really thankful for the professionalism and stability of our club and that is mainly down to Nick. He's been an incredible business, club and culture builder. It does sometimes make me worry about the future though - he's in his 80s now and he won't go on or live forever. He's too smart not to have succession plans in place but he'll be a tough guy to replace from a smarts, experience, connections etc perspective

Don't forget we have very smart men in Mark Bouris and ex players with real business/finance degrees in Luke Ricketson, Cooper Cronk (who is being mentored by a mutual friend's retired financial expert) and Luke Keary has been working in the field as well, doing some work at Koda Capital.
We won't end up a basket case like some clubs..yes Balmain Tigers..I do mean you...

hello and yes, I think one of the many things I like about the club Nick is how he brings in other top business people to mentor players and bring in contacts and be involved. And he also keeps the great former players around the club for years to come. Braith isn't everyone's cup of tea but he's said repeatedly that he took less $$ to come to the club because of the connections being a Rooster gave him and given where he is today, I'd say it was a good decision.Originally posted by Duchess_of_Bondi View Post

and yep re the Tigers. But not just them - Manly are an absolute shower. The Dragons aren't much better and many others have their moments - the Dogs for example until they brought Gus in as supreme leader
