It must fugging s*ck to be a ref with all of the more technical changes as well. They get decent coin but honestly I dunno if I could be fugged reffing local footy with so many stupid rules to consider.
IMO rules are there to set the boundaries so that the game's more fun and doesn't turn into a farce (e.g. changing the original basketball rules so that there were boundaries stopped people getting ahead and then dribbling the ball down the road).
People will always rightfully play to the rules if there's a loophole. However if nothing's broke, then why fix it?!?

What a year that was. Didn’t we beat Manly 5 times in that year including a trial?Originally posted by Bates View PostOne of the best games of footy I've watched was back in 2013 when we beat Manly 4 - 0 in the qualifying final.
The Bondi Wall was at it's best!

Yeah this is probably true.Originally posted by dice View PostIf you introduce a really dumb rule like six-again which destroys the energy levels of the defensive team, then the only way to save face is to compliment it with other gimmick rule changes like this one, and the other recent one where dropkicking out on the full is no longer penalised.
The 6 again rule really has changed the game.
Can't see it going anywhere while PVL is at the helm though.

The NRL has proposed a six man bench for 2026
Only 4 players may be used with a total of 8 interchanges allowed during the game
1. At full strength what would the Roosters side look like?
2. Will the number 14 (Utility player)become less important or irrelevant ?
3. What advantages could teams use?
I imagine during Origin or the last round of the season you could potentially rest a player by listing him in the 6 interchanges and only using him in an emergency.
5. Would the new bench look like this?- 14 Back-up Dummy half
- 15 Prop
- 16 Prop
- 17 Lock/Second Row
- 18 Half/Five-eighth
- 19 Back

The new rule is flawed imo.
Opting to receive the ball after conceding a try doesn't mean that you've arrested the oppositions momentum. It's still there if it's been a one sided affair! The opposition knows it and you can feel it. This will most likely effect your next set and potentially result in a turnover of possession, poor yardage, poor 5th tackle option etc.
The other issue is giving the weaker sides a leg up which will only compound and magnify their deficiencies when they're still getting dominated.
At best the new rule will change the results form 30 plus landslides to 20 plus one sided affairs. The difference being the result of slightly less possession for the dominant team.
All teams work hard to find their rhythm, desired tempo and eventually enough momentum to control the game. It's a 101 of RL! Introducing a rule that attempts to counter this is a step in the wrong direction imo.
