They were cotton and had a shaped leg that fanned. The style modelled on an English short and made by Westmont.
Bunny Reilly and Johnny Peard wore them well.

And seriously, how average is the adidas stuff? The worst of the unsold castore stuff, re-badged. Hardly any sizes available for any of it. Just the old nylon shorts.

And the adidas logo, cut at that half baked angle. Not a fan. Three even stripes was one of the best sport logos in history. Adidas.

Now it's watered down and lesser quality. They put less into it.
