  • Our back 3

2 of our back 3 are probably year by year prospects. Both 1 serious injury away from hanging them up (really hope that doesn’t happen).
I’m sure the club is planning for it, but it’s been rattling around in my brain for a while now, what is the best way to replace Teddy & Toops?
I would love to see Mark N get a go at fullback, the guy is a freak & I can see him absolutely killing it. There’s also the possibility of Suaalii coming back in 2028. He could take the number 1 as well, although I’m not sure after 3 years of yawnion if he will remember how to tackle.
I don’t watch enough junior footy to know what’s in our pathways. Has anyone here seen someone that could cover the spots?
I know it’s a problem for beyond this season & our focus is on getting as far as we can this year, it’s just something that has got me thinking a bit this year.

I believe we want to promote from within, at least in Teddy’s case with Rex Bassingthwaighte.

Toops is my favourite player. The admiration I have for Teddy and his stella career can't be measured so i'll be a little sad when they retire.

With that said, Teddy could potentially play for another 2 to 3 seasons as there are no signs of an ageing player. Slater mentioned after the Storm game that "Teddy is in career best form"

Marky is a freak athlete! It'd be interesting to see how he performs at fullback. He's explosive so open space and broken play would suit his style of footy.

Ross Bassingthwaite is an excellent fullback prospect.

Marky is not fast enough to be a top shelf fullback?

True but it would be interesting to see how he performs. Walters was looking at his potential to play on the wing and cover fullback for the Ashes.

I think a stint in rugby will improve Suaalii's overall game. Whether he has the motor to play fullback in the NRL is a different matter.

Suaalii's not coming back - Rugby for life. For some reason, that game is internationally popular, mostly with the well healed classes as it provides a point of difference although there are exceptions to that like NZ where ordinary yobs see something in it. Union will want to keep and build on his high profile and he will become very wealthy as a result.

Also, yawnion has less impact on the body so will probably prolong your playing career.
And why would he leave when he is reaping in the big $$$ for less work??

If I had to choose between Joe and Marky Mark, I would choose the latter on current form.

100% agree. Marky Mark has delivered significantly more the Joe ever did at a fraction of the cost. Given his ability to change a game by doing things that others can’t, we should be throwing the chequebook at him to lessen any desire to go back to that dreadfully boring game. He has the potential to be even better than Toups in the long term, and I see Toups as being our best ever winger to date.

Marky Mark everyday of the week. As Gus said what he has done this year , other players could only wish to do it in there entire career

Average Joe would be poor value on anything higher than $500k a year.

Would he offer more than Toops, Billy, Toia or Marky? Nope!

changing tack - we've got the best back 3 in the comp. teddy's the best fb and marky and toops are arguably in the top 5 wingers

Maybe we could get Latrell back when Teddy retires
