  • Still not feeling it

Every year we have won the comp over a sustained period of time I have always come to this point of time in the year and felt we were a massive chance.

    Not this year.
    Way off.
    Hopeful?
sure…..on paper OK. Great new winger, maybe it inspires the rich rugby boy to put his body on the line ?
Sammy actually dialled in? Love to know the back story there.
Lots of oldies ..JWH, Toops. And the autistic Victor.

Im a Butcher fan, be nice to see Lindsay become a Morley rooster rather than a QLD legend
    barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

    We have a great 9 7 and 6 individually.
can they find cohesion and compliment each other is another question.
it's hard to see the Roosters not being clunky early in the season , especially if Robbo throws more confusion into the mix using Rads as a link man in the middle.

Lindsay Collins was hands down our best player last year, not sure what more people expect from him.

He turned up in moments where only hard work and desire get you to like Boyd Cordner, Craig Fitzgibbon & Jake Freind would. He’s building his own legacy, he doesn’t need to be the next Morley and the constant Qld jabs from some are so wildly off the mark for mine.

We have great individual players, but we can't win without a halfback. We won two comps with Cronk because he went to the line and made space for the outside men. He was the on field coach as Cleary, Reynolds and DCE are for the other Vegas teams. Keary doesn't want to do it and Walker can't do it, not last year anyhow.
But this year we have Justin Holbrook a former halfback organising our attack, hopefully he turned one of the halfbacks into a halfback.

            In my humble opinion

            BIGGEST PLUSSES:

Prop Rotation - Collins, JWH, Leinu and May. Thats a fairly imposing set, and will be a nightmare for oppositions. Let's hope JWH can keep his temper in check, as last year he was becoming a big liability in this regard.

The 3/4 - Smith, Toops, Manu, Young, Suualii. Any other team would sell a kidney to have the talent we'll have at our disposal this year. Hoping the coaching staff can get them sorted out into consistent positions/roles.

The halves - long kicking aside (which will be a peripheral issue if our forwards and 3/4 do the yardage game well) Keary and Walker have all the tricks in the book to rack up points and close out games. Keary is the steady hand, been there and done that and with a great temprament for leadership. This is the year Walker will really mature...he'll pull in a few of the more speculative options, but the one's he'll make will count.

            BIGGEST CONCERNS:

Teddy - has lost a lot of pace, and appears not to be capable of the electric plays we've seen from him in the past. I have no doubt he'll be very good still, but the days of him winning games single handedly are in all likelihood gone. Hoping his playmaking has been worked on in the off-season, because the solo running ball-hog routine just ain't gonna work any more. I still have questions as to whether he is best suited to captaincy over a couple of others in the team, but happy to give benefit of the doubt for now.

Rake - I do hope it is Sandon Smith off the bench, because it is to our large detriment to have Watson or Dockar Clay doing the bench hooker role. Even so, Sandon is not a specialist in the role. Moriaty is still green and unproven. Smith (Brandon) is in my opinion a better No.13 than a hooker. His darts from dummy half are exceptional, but his service isn't.

Our temprament on field - For over a year now, starting with the loss to Souffs in Sept 2022, our on-field play has been peppered with a lot of instances of players losing their heads, getting baited easily, players having a go at others on field instead of being supportive, and just generally not feeling like a close squad. I would like to believe that Lodge was the sole reason behind the discontent, but if not I hope the leadership team has regrouped and got everyone pulling together as a unit.

Absolutely was a beast for us last year, by far our best player like you say. His effort on every play was unmatched and he is a genuine prop that you would absolutey love to run out with. Who knows where he ends up with the trajectory he is on

I have expectations to win the comp every year. Even when we were absolutely crap and had no chance I always hoped and expected a miracle.

                GO THE MIGHTY ROOSTERS!

the Teddy pace thing was a real concern.
I wrote about it last year when I was concerned he was carrying a disc injury in his low back.

he did look better in the last third of the season, so I’m guessing they changed up his treatment

In our final round game vs Souths I noticed that Radley behaved himself, and even dragged Sam away from Cody. It seemed like Robbo threatened to break his legs or similar if he compromised another finals series.

                        Jared on the other hand...

I’m a bit concerned about that too.
Injuries will determine what happens with the Chooks this year.
You need your strongest pack of forwards playing most of the year, the rest of the team can only fire if JWH, Collins, Lenui & May are all on deck nearly every round.
I still think Sam is a couple of seasons off being able to play it real tough & if Keary goes down for an extended time then a lot falls on Sam & Sandon.
Overall though it’s a bloody good squad & if we have some luck then we are contenders.

As I stated here a while ago, 9 is our weakness.

If Smith goes down we will have either a part timer or someone with zero experience playing there. It’s too important a position for there not to be a specialist backup. I thought Robbo would agree based on the number of back up hookers he’s had over the past decade.
