That was Smith giving Anasta the finger in public.Originally posted by ale le coq View Postno questions for bwaiff?
i love the bit at the end "mini is a performer, thats why he's getting a new contract"
When I heard in the media the rumors that Anasta was going to have to lift his form for this year to get a contract, that sounded like something Smith had said to our management. The closer you monitor smith antics the more he grows on you. I've gone from hating him to respecting him.

That is exactly what it was. Funny, but a touch cruel.Originally posted by Rooster2013 View PostThat was Smith giving Anasta the finger in public.

I think Smith's (and lots of credit to POS too) ability to trim the fat, dispose of of egos and bring in young talent has been understated. He has rebuilt this side tremendously well.
Compare the list now from where it was in 2009. Amazing transformation and I think there is a very distinct change in club culture now. The players now are enthusiastic and for the most part, try hard; they play for each other. It's an enjoyable a period to be a Roosters supporter, because you feel that they are developing into a really strong side.
This presser was quite enlightening about the game plan Smith is looking to implement. He wants them to develop disciple and grind sides down before piling on the points. In that respect, they followed through perfectly on the weekend.
I don't know about some of the negative nellies on this forum, but I'm really happy with this team and really happy with the direction of the season. It should only be onwards and upwards from here.

And Anasta deserves every one fingered salute he gets from the fans, coach, players and anyone else who feels the need - he is the biggest fraud since Peter Foster.

Agreed. Under Smith, a lot has changed since 2009...
- the emergence of Kennedy, Hargreaves, Masoe, Tasi, Takairangi, Cordner, Guerra, Leilua, Arona, and now the infinitely talented Tagive
- the steady improvement of the players who emerged over the 2006-2009 period into genuine high-quality players, such as Perrett, Kenny-Dowall, Friend, Pearce, Aubusson, Nuuausala (to a lesser extent) and the now injury-free Minichiello
- making the hard decisions and getting rid of players on big money e.g. O'Meley, Mason, Myles, Anasta, Carney
The only players who have 'stagnated' in a sense under Smith have been Symonds (inconsistency + injury), Cherrington (injury), and J Carney (just average). I loved how he 'trimmed the fat' in 2010 after an inconsistent start to the year - after Round 10 (a loss to the Knights, I believe) we didn't see guys like Jason Baitieri, Sonny Tuigamala, Aiden Guerra (at least until the next season), Ben Jones, James Aubusson (until the very end), Lopini Paea (until the GF) again. It was almost like he stamped them as surplus to requirements, and moved on, focusing on the rest of the team.
Moving into the future, I would love to see Moga, Sheck and Evans develop into first grade weapons as well.

Aiden Guerra wasnt "trimmed". They couldnt play him for the rest of the season because we would have been over the cap if he played any more games that season. He was on a per game bonus structure, and we couldnt afford to pay him anymore without going over the cap for the remainder of the season.Originally posted by The Mack View PostAgreed. But the rest of the side, I dont beleive was completely trimmed, but it definitely was some what reduced. We all saw people like Lopini Paea and James Aubusson come back into the side.
But good to see all the Smith lovers come out of the dark now. I on the other hand still beleive we could do with a better coach, egs: Bellamy or Taylor.
Not taking any credit away from Smith, he has done well, but its time to move on.
