  • Everyone's.............

Carrying on like we've won the lotto. Since when is finishing 7th or 8th cause for celebration? Robinson said himself that we play for premierships. If someone said to me at the beginning of the year that we'd finish 7th or 8th with a differential of -30, I would've laughed at such a stupid statement, here we are 6 months later and that's reality.

I can understand the excitement now, 14th, 6 weeks ago, having to win every game and voila, the guru flicks the switch and here we are. To be honest, I'm more thrilled with knocking the metho breaths out than scraping into the 8, don't get me wrong, I'm relieved that we're there, because we have 2 very winnable semis in front of us. Warriors, Sharks, Raiders and knights hardly send shivers down my spine.

Should we make it to the preliminary, we'll probably play Penrith. The bad, we haven't beaten them in our last 10 meetings. The good is that we're probably due. If we make the GF or the preliminary for that matter I will need therapy, but I'll know that Robinson's tactics are making footy seasons a nightmare. So any of you that stupidly suggest that I hate Easts or want them to lose are effing idiots.

How many of you would've been happy to scrape into the 8 at the beginning of the season? Easts to win.

I must be on a different forum, I haven’t seen everyone carrying on as such.

As usual there’s extreme views on either side and then a lot more non-extreme views who see it glass half empty / glass half full.

I guess my question is why all the need to be negative and bring others down… can we all not just enjoy the weekend and the fact we just knocked Souths out of the comp.

Learn to enjoy the little wins along the way!

Some on here must get confused with supporting the coq means they have to be one.

let fans enjoy something from a mostly underwhelming season. There is more to unfold yet…..

I think at negative thread 1,238 you’d be a prime candidate.

Everyone isn’t carrying on like we’ve won the lotto. But we knocked Souths out of the comp, won our last 5 and made the top 8… of course there’s going to be some excitement on the forum ffs.

Ahhh you haven't seen the F-you thread or the others asking for an apology for scrapping into the top 8 ???

Agree there's relief we made it & should enjoy the facts you mentioned.

I have been here for 3/4 of 20 years. As an admin you should, and you do know, that this is just an early 70s primary school tit for tat forum. Negativity is the driving force and one upmanship is the dominant discourse. I'd love this theme to change direction. You have a sound knowledge of the nuances of rugby league, but you are an equal agitator along with the many. Opposing views must, of course, be countered with solid and hopefully factual debate, but all and sundry here seem to sit and argue about the quality of tea cosies.

Even if we happen to win the comp this year, some people will not be totally happy …

In my opinion here is what has changed in the last month or so.....

                      1. Keary has found form. Its hard to knock him because he has carried our attack with great success since 2017 but he was really struggling this year. Now he is firing its giving a revitalised Sam Walker room to do Sam Walker things

                      2. Teddy has found form. When the teams best player is in a bog its going to hurt. He has some of that old zest back

                      3. Billy Smith. He was injured, Momo (who hasn't been in great form) was injured, i would have bet my bottom dollar that Suaalii would have handled that position-but he didn't. JS is a fullback who can kick arse on the wing- those positions come naturally to him...as does centre to Billy Smith

                      4. Brandon Smith. Starting to see some of those trademark runs and jolting defence- he is making a real difference in the middle

                      5. Lindsay Collins. The guy was earmarked 6 years ago to be our no.1 forward, and he has killed it for Australia and Qld but has been hot and luke-warm for us- and we need him raging hot like the last month

Don't get me wrong- 2023 to date has been disappointing- we should be a top 4 team and now we have to do it the hard way and realistically and historically its going to be a real hard battle. We need to be better so we aren't in this position of scraping into the 8.

What i dont agree with is coach bashing. Can we just leave it to Wests, St George, Canterbury and co to play musical chairs with coaches that results in decades of waste. Whatever Nick decides just back him!

Last year we won 8 in a row. I believe we have a slightly better team this year as of next weeks predicted team.
So why can’t we go 8 in a row again.
that would take us to grand final day.

We’ve had a season where key players were out of form for long periods. This happens with athletes sometimes and it is the main reason for our poor form patch.

The positional changes that Robbo made were failures but were not without a rationale . Suaalii was still being courted to re-sign at the club and would not have been happy staying on the wing. Sam was sent to reserves to rediscover his spark - just like Latrell was in 2018 - but was always going to come back in a couple of weeks. But he got hurt.

We’ve had some unconvincing wins, like every team has, and some narrow and disappointing losses too, but the bottom line is that we finished three wins behind the fourth placed Storm. That’s not a catastrophe, just an underperformance. As you point out, we could very well go a fair bit farther into the finals.

I love the Roosters. I’ve been following them since 1967 and spent way too much of my life obsessed with them, their players, whether they can make the finals, win the comp or just beat Souths. Way, way too much time. Maybe you feel the same way.

But I am getting very tired of all the hand wringing, despair and, sometimes, free range hatred of the world that finds itself entangled with the discussions on this forum.

We just knocked the Vermin out of the finals race in the most humiliating way. My heart soars like a dove. But you’re out there with your shotgun.

                              Give it a break FFS.
