  • I only found out about this the other day...no doubt many on here already knew

Latrell Mitchell is the maternal great nephew of Evonne Goolagong-Cawley.

Apparently he has a strained relationship with her. God knows why, she is the most likeable and admirable person one could ever hope to meet.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

The article below from the SMH from 2016. Doesn't state why they had a falling out though.

Latrell Mitchell, well before he was being compared to Greg Inglis, wanted to make his own name. Which is why he changed it.

For much of his life, the Roosters rookie was known as Latrell Goolagong, sharing the same surname as Australian tennis champion Evonne Goolagong Cawley. And while the two sports stars are related – "she's my pop's sister, my mum's aunty," Mitchell said – the teenage fullback was keen to distance himself from the seven-time grand-slam champion.

"I am [related], but I like to say I'm not," Mitchell said.

It's understood there has been a falling out in the family and it's fair to say Mitchell and his siblings are not close to the tennis legend.

Known as Latrell Goolagong until his early teens, the Taree product and his brothers decided to take their father's name instead.

"Me and my brothers were like 'nah, it doesn't feel right'," Mitchell said.

"When I was in year eight or nine in high school I changed it over. I wanted to make my own name, not live on a family legacy.

"[Goolagong-Cawley] keeps to herself and I like it that way."
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

There's a few people on this website who like to refer to Latrell as Goolagong for this reason.

2016 should be the year that Latrell did an interview where he said his father's dream was for him to play for Souths that's when it was obvious he would never stay with us long term.

        How was your Australia Day?

Did you manage to burn any flags down?

Latrell looks a bit like Yvonne.

A bit like the Ella brothers having a family resemblance with their uncle Bruce Lapa Stewart.
