I’ve been doing heaps of research and I’m worried about being ripped off by the power companies. I’m in a Facebook group for making your home more energy efficient and quite a few posters have explained how they are now worse off because the companies now charge them a higher rate in non peak periods to offset the FIT plus a higher supply rate once they’re forced over to a smart meter due to solar. It seems you really need to have a battery which I didn’t want to buy just yet due to the cost. Even then the greedy power companies will just put the supply charge up to compensate for customers using the grid less.Originally posted by Bates View PostNew and improved Solar Panels work better than the old ones when it's cloudy, overcast etc

My beautiful wife is the bean counter however I think we're saving around $1400 a year since we installed solar and that's with me leaving lights on everywhere. A habit that I've always struggled with.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Yeah I’m the money manager in our household too and I’m very thorough with utility bills. I’ve just checked our current energy company and I’m in the cheapest plan possible, only available for households with a basic meter. So being forced to the cheapest plan with a smart meter, the supply charge is about 25c a day more and the usage charge 7c kw/h more. I worked out we would be $500 roughly worse off, not counting the solar. So it’s a matter of whether we can get enough free power from solar in December to February when using the aircon and other power between midday and 6pm to counter that $500 loss. If not we will need a battery. Grrr..Originally posted by Bates View Post

As for the weather a beautiful 22 degrees day today. Such a pleasant change and I don’t even care that it’s windy. And no need for any aircon at all.
