Ok fair enough. All good then. I grew up in country NSW too so saw racism first hand. I moved to Canberra when I left school but still consider myself to be a NSW country girl at heart despite living in the ACT for far longer than NSW. My entire extended family are from NSW and my siblings and families still live in regional NSW. Also as I’ve said before I’ve lived with discrimination my entire life so when I perceive that I see it, even when I’m wrong, I will speak up. I was also enjoying the United thread and our bashing, flaming and venting of the traitor Latrell / Latrine.Originally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post
No worries lets leave it there. If you knew me you would understand I am anything but racist esp re our indigenous. My sister in law and niece and nephew are Aboriginal. I grew up in country NSW and worked there for many years, some of my best mates are indigenous .Worked for Indigenous Affairs.researched and wrote briefings for Government Ministers on remote service delivery strategies etc. ⁰
An irony I find is that actual indigenous people I know don't feel racism is an issue. And for that I rejoice.
I know you are well intentioned MR. See ya in the forum.

Fair enough. Now whilst I do not think you are racist I dont understand why you appeared to think Goodes deserved to be booed. I am genuinely confused by thatOriginally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post
Spirit of 66 brought it up quite innocently just expressing hope that people didn't conflate the Lattrell/Goodes issues when Lattrell is booed.I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

AW yes, it was the initial comment with no explanation that I reacted to with a sigh of ‘here we go another thread derail...ho hum.’ or something of the like.Originally posted by Andrew Walker View PostI also do not think JFC is racist. But the initial comment with no explanation as to why Goodes deserved to be booed left him wide open to such thoughts.
PS I still find my self wondering what the need was to bring Goodes into this whole thing

I must admit whilst I do not deliberately do such a thing. I have always liked seeing a thread go off on another tangent.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Have we ever required a reason for crowds to boo players?Originally posted by Andrew Walker View Post

I don't follow AFL closely obviously but understood he was being booed for how he treated that young autistic girl. Also potentially antagonising crowds with a spear throwing dance? So in terms of what I've heard League crowds do and say to the players it seemed a drop in the ocean comparatively. I've heard some really nasty stuff from adults not kiddies. And he probably should have just copped it. But again...just an opinion. I'm pretty sure if you surveyed each member of the crowd and asked why they booed Goodes, his skin colour or race would not rate a mention.

I personally find it a bit tiresome when a good footy thread derails into politics and the United thread is a great one with all us chooks fans coming together in protest and venting over you know who!Originally posted by Andrew Walker View Post

Jack I have two indigenous son in laws who would pretty much agree with you. Of course there is racism but only from the simple minded and that will never change . They are both top blokes and great providers and just get on with it.Originally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post

You mean the one he reacted to who called him an ape. The spear throwing dance was a little over the top but that was in reaction to the booing The whole thing with Goodes was quite sad from start to finish. You know what they say For every action there is a reaction. In some cases it can be an over reaction. Look at the mutt last night throwing the ball down near Bakers head. I will admit I went very close to doing the exact same thing when I was playing but I checked myself and didnt, instead just stood over and looked down on the player with a gloating look. Being me I then extended my hand and helped him to his feet. But my 1st reaction was to do exactly what the mutt did and I really did have to check myself. It is easy to get carried away but there is a line. Personally I never sledged heard plenty of good ones some directed my way But for me most times I just wanted to play and have fun, bit like in life too I just wanna have funOriginally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post

Yeah...I had a close shave playing Touch when I lived in Tamworth. A guy 'hit' me a bit hard on the last tackle, and I was fired up and ready to make him eat some Steeden. But at the last moment I twigged that my opponent was a guy called John Hallford. He just happened to be a 2 times World Champion in Kickboxing. I avoided a trip to hospital.Originally posted by Andrew Walker View Post

Latrine enraged us all so much we forgot about it.Originally posted by The Skeez View PostWhat did I miss over here? Is covid still a thing?
Seriously though how are you guys coping with this never ending lockdown? The NSW lockdown has to be one of the strictest and longest shutdowns in the world.
American comedian Tim Dillon has copped backlash for suggesting Australians love lockdowns because we can stay at home, not work, get drunk and have a BBQ.

Goodes was initially booed, along with several other players in the AFL who were not necessarily indigenous, for what the AFL call staging. Soccer and league call it diving. The great man that he likes to think he is was upset by a 12 year old girl whatever she said. He then had to humiliate her in front of the whole nation. What a champ.Originally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post
