Also sad Red that the old fashioned butcher shop that was only a few doors away from the spot where the original Balkan was on Oxford St closed up last year.

Haha...not a dig at you oh Mighty One. I just love a post that says 'Curried Sausages' and nothing else. You know the small things, small minds quote applies to me.

That stretch of Oxford Street, once a bustling dinning scene is extremely dilapidated and I fear for its future.

That whole stretch is just putrid and has been for a long while, used to be the go to with both Balkan Restaurants, Rockerfellers ( the American hamburger, diner joint ), Casa Cordobes ( very good Italian ), all gone .

At least Thainesia is still flying the flag along that stretch and is always packed out, think i would cry if that closed down. Dimitri's pizza is also along that stretch, it used to be on Crown St for years, haven't tried it since the move. Still that stretch is a ghost town now compared to it past.

Westfield Bondi Junction Farked Oxford Street!

I own 3 properties on Oxford Street. I was getting more rent for 2 of them 18 years ago.

                      • Oxford Street Paddington, specifically, suffered with the opening of Westfield Bondi Junction.

But that's because corporate stores ruined the incredible culture of Paddington in the 90's. Landlords made a fortune but Paddo lost its soul. Something it's still trying to regain.

It will be full of high rise apartments one day.

Perhaps if they build a tunnel from Syd Einfeld Drive and turn Oxford Street into a mall with no cars it would flourish again.

Yeah I used to buy my clothes from Oxford St Paddington in the early to mid 90s. Now every second shop is up for lease.
