I'm going to join as well when I get home. One of my girlfriends goes regularly as she is now retired and she has seen some classics this winter already. I'm so jealous! She usually goes to the Newtown one but it's being renovated I think. Yes, when I worked in the city I used to go after work too and then get the ferry home during summer..

Over the long weekend i watched Another Mans Poison starring Bette Davis which i recorded off ABC2 ages ago, very hokey and contrived but still very enjoyable, she made it not long after All About Eve.Also on the Monday watched Titanic from 1953 starring Barbara Stanwyck, great movie with a great ensemble cast apart from Stanwyck there was Clifton Webb,Brian Aherne,Thelma Ritter and a very young Robert Wagner. After that i was inspired by one of Chooks earlier thread and put on Airport,it still enjoy this movie, some hokey moments but still very gripping, love Burt Lancaster in this one and also Helen Hayes playing the impish stowaway.
Im with rwb and novice chook, i love going to the Dendy and the one at Newtown is very handy for me.Also looking to see some of the movies at the State Theatre for the 100 years of Universal festival, looking forward to seeing Dracula, Frankenstein and Bride Of Frankenstein in particular.

I remember going to see that Matty Johns movie The Final Winter at the Dendy in Newtown because it was about the Jets. Such a good film. Must try and get the DVD..Originally posted by horrie hastings View PostOver the long weekend i watched Another Mans Poison starring Bette Davis which i recorded off ABC2 ages ago, very hokey and contrived but still very enjoyable, she made it not long after All About Eve.Also on the Monday watched Titanic from 1953 starring Barbara Stanwyck, great movie with a great ensemble cast apart from Stanwyck there was Clifton Webb,Brian Aherne,Thelma Ritter and a very young Robert Wagner. After that i was inspired by one of Chooks earlier thread and put on Airport,it still enjoy this movie, some hokey moments but still very gripping, love Burt Lancaster in this one and also Helen Hayes playing the impish stowaway.

I have seen so many interesting things at the Dendy, plenty of great doco's especially.Dendy at the quay is showing some of the old classics on Mondays, i am going to try and get to see The Adventures Of Robin Hood with a very beautiful Olivia de Havilland and the charasmatic Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone, have this movie on dvd but would and love and see it in a theatre.Originally posted by redwhiteblue View PostI remember going to see that Matty Johns movie The Final Winter at the Dendy in Newtown because it was about the Jets. Snap, I saw that movie there as well one Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it.Originally posted by redwhiteblue View PostI remember going to see that Matty Johns movie The Final Winter at the Dendy in Newtown because it was about the Jets. Such a good film. Must try and get the DVD..
Newtown Dendy has just reopened after its renos. I go there occasionally but it's not on a direct train line for me so Opera Quays is more convenient. And of course parking is abysmal at Newtown.
Becoming a Dendy member is terrific value. From memory my 2 year membership was about $30 and allows you 2 tickets at the membership price ($11-$12 for non seniors) for any session. And they have the frequent movie cards so if you see 4 films in 3 months, the 5th is free so long as you go in that 3 month period.

Yes the Dendy membership is good value.I have a yearly membership, cannot remember how much it was though. The Dendy Newtown is very convenient for me, i can walk there in about 30 mins or get a bus door to door and you are right nc about parking in Newtown, its terrible but i know of a few sneaky parking spots with no time limits on them near Newtown station if i ever drive up.Originally posted by novice chook View PostSnap, I saw that movie there as well one Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

By the way, if any of you go to see Rock of Ages, post on here simply whether you reckon it's shyte or worth viewing. I can't make up my mind whether or not I want to see it or not! My sentimental side reckons a flashback to my long lost youth would be a blast, my practical side says that's better left back in the 80s where it belongs!

Thanks so much NC. That will keep me busy in the off season as Opera Quays will be easy for me to get to when I move home.Originally posted by novice chook View PostSnap, I saw that movie there as well one Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The fact that Tom Cruise and Catherine Zeta Jones are in it is enough to put me off seeing itOriginally posted by novice chook View PostBy the way, if any of you go to see Rock of Ages, post on here simply whether you reckon it's shyte or worth viewing. Watching those two is like re-enacting the opening scene from Un Chien Andalou, the Dail film.Originally posted by horrie hastings View PostThe fact that Tom Cruise and Catherine Zeta Jones are in it is enough to put me off seeing it
This is a movie thread, if I can't be pretentious here where can I be?

The Perfect Host is an awesome movie for those who like a nice thriller that is a bit out of the ordinary.
Machine Gun Preacher is an awful movie which tries too hard to pull at the heartstrings. Gerard Butler does not suit the role at all.
For those who enjoyed the mindless action movies from the 90s (such as myself) will enjoy JCVD's new movie Assassination Games. Classic Van Damme!

I was planning to see the Woman in Black Mike but the session times were always out of whack and I reckon I've missed out. Maybe the DVD is a thought as a birthday or Chrissie present from the niece or nephew.
Having only ever seen 1 Harry Potter Movie (when I was volunteering) he carries no baggage as far as I'm concerned. I remember seeing him in an Aussie film a few years back and he was quite good in that as well I thought.

It is quite a good movie set in the early 19th century England.Originally posted by novice chook View PostI was planning to see the Woman in Black Mike but the session times were always out of whack and I reckon I've missed out. To me, Redcliffe is like Pattinson, without the looks but with superior acting ability. It takes quite a performance to shake off the Harry Potter tag and i thought he did it brilliantly.
Also, while i'm here - Gibson's new movie "Get The Gringo" is vintage Mel. Despite all the off-screen stuff that has been going on, Mel stands the test of time as an action leading man.
Although a bit violent in parts - the story, dialogue and the characters are phenomenal. Must see if you like Mel Gibson.

I too enjoyed the hell out of The Woman in Black - a modernised Hammer movie.Originally posted by BigMike View PostIt is quite a good movie set in the early 19th century England.

An analogy related to Daniel Radcliffe would be Maggie Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes in the Batman Franchise.
Katie Holmes is pretty but CANNOT act and Maggie Gyllenhaal can act but is fugly.
