Comparing an 18yr old to an adult... you the full quid?

No one said it was an awesome signing just awesome recruitment, i.e what kind of players we are targeting.

Just comparing him to our current winger. He is short and of small build and I doubt he is a great defender at this stage which is one of our major problems on the wing. I can't see him offering as much as the hype some are showing. I hope I am wrong but using the word "awesome" is a bit much. I can see him playing for Newtown for a couple of years IF we have signed him. He may very well be an awesome signing for Newtown. They will have a fairly decent team next year. But I would rather have Carney or Naughton on the wing if Graham has been relseased.

in case you didnt know, he is actually only 18 so i think he still has a couple of years of NYC in him which should entail a bit more 'growing' before he even contemplates turning up at newtown training. and he is actually meant to be a fullback forced onto the wing because of his age/depth in that position at a previous club. comparing him in stature to fullbacks, i think you will find that he is around the right height and around the average weight. if he can put on 5 or so more kgs to get him up around the 85 90 mark thats perfect. at his age i think an offseason could easily produce those sorts of results so the size isnt an issue.

and on a side note, this whole recruitment argument is a but silly and probably a product of off season restlessness. the kid is an awesome young talent identified by the club and signed accordingly. I dont know how anyone can really dispute that. whether he converts or not is a separate matter but compared to others of his vintage, he has the form, skills set and runs on the board. it now comes down to his determination to make it to the top and the ability of our coaching staff to get the best out of him but imo, POS has done his job

Man that cracked me up. You're seriously making assumptions on someone you've never seen play... seriously? Perett is a great decision maker he's just left isolated a lot of the time playing outside SKD.

The word awesome was used in the fact that we are signing the best young talent in the country. It's not isolated to this one situation and you're taking it way out of context.

Just for all the doubters, you do know that Akuila Uate was only 18 not to long ago? He was exactly the same as an 18 year old, hyped up to the max with huge potential, in his first 2 or so years in FG, his defence was diabolical and could not catch the ball, but the Knights signed him long term gave him the benefit of the doubt and worked through his meak points. Look at him now he is the best winger in the game, my point being is that these younger players don't become NRL stars overnight like some of you seem to expect, a few years of training and being worked with and he'll become a superstar.

He has all the credentials, making rep sides (Aus & QLD) from a very young age. To do that from Townsville is an impressive effort they usually don't get a whole lot of recognition, having watched him played if this signing comes off I definitely think there's a good chance he'll be groomed as a fullback. If signing the best young talent in the country isn't awesome then I'm not here.

He has got some great potential but is not the best young talent coming through the ranks. I'm no way doubting him to become a star player in the near future, but there are more gifted youngsters coming through the ranks now.

FMD some of you are having orgasms over a kid we haven't even confirmed signing yet.

His stats are ok for NYC. Others have said his handling and defense are suss. If we had signed Fai-Fai Loa or Likiliki then I would say "awesome" but I just don't get some of the hype with this kid.

22 games, 18 tries, 18 line breaks, 98 tackle busts and 103 metres a game is pretty good if you ask me for an 18 year old largely playing out of position. he does makes a few errors (31 for the season) but for someone that young to play that much footy at that level being that effective in attack with his rep regime tells me that he can certainly play.

You make a fair point that we shouldnt get too carried away etc but if true, it is a really good signing. i might just point out that he is 2 years younger than mark kheirallah who was far and away our most consistent/best outside back this year (one who most here believe is on the verge of first grade) and here are his stats for comparison:
19 games, 20 tries, 66 tackles busts, 107 meters a game, 22 errors. probably a bit better but for a player who was arguable in the best few wingers in the comp to not be streets ahead of a bloke 2 years younger of similar stature who actually appears to have been pretty much as effective in attack particularly with respect to his ability to bust tackles we can see that he would definitely be an excellent addition to the side.

So let me get this right, you're basing his potential on what you've 'heard'. You 'might' of seen him but you can't recall. Seriously if you haven't even watched him play why are you commenting on how good he is?? Seriously....?

Likiliki, Tasi & Fai-Fai Loa are all 20 year olds it was there last year in the NYC they were expected to dominate. Ulugia has still got another 2 years left. Can you at least make a fair comparison no one has said he's ready for first grade ffs what are you not getting?
