But wouldn't you say its the recruitment guy whose job it is to recruit the guys with the potential and then its the coaching staff's job to realise that potential ?

I would say it is an awesome recruitment.
Whether it's an awesome signing will depend on whether the coaching staff can take him to the next level !

it's likely you've never seen him play

but even if you have seen him play, you're now saying that if he comes to the club and doesn't end up impressing and playing first grade, it's the fault of the coaching staff - not being able to take him to the next level

if he doesn't go well here there's every chance he wasn't up to it in the first place, and never had the talent to begin with

until he does something here, his signing can't be called "awesome recruitment"

that said, I hope he goes great

not much size about him though

TOK, serious question - has anyone ever punched you in the face on a night out?

Unless ofcourse you change your persona online(highly likely), you seem like quite the arrogant ****.

It bothers me little, but I am somewhat interested in th answer.

I dont disagree with what you've said, but I still think its the recruitment guys job to pick out the guys who have the potential and I guess the right attitude to be most likely to convert that potential. Then its over to the coaching staff to try and get that player to realise that potential.

Obviously the recruitment guy is not going to get it 100% right everytime (nor the coaching staff for that matter), but all we can hope for is that they are finding players with potential, and that some of them will progress.

I'll concede on the 'awesome' recruitment ...maybe a little over the top.
                    I'll go with 'really good'

                      Its a 3 way thing.
The recruitment people, the coaching staff and the player them selves.

The is probably the reason its good to see footballers young, so they can not only be developed as footballers but so you can weed out the idiots

He has all the credentials, making rep sides (Aus & QLD) from a very young age. To do that from Townsville is an impressive effort they usually don't get a whole lot of recognition, having watched him played if this signing comes off I definitely think there's a good chance he'll be groomed as a fullback. If signing the best young talent in the country isn't awesome then I'm not here.

I agree wholeheartedly. I've never really been a fan of the big-name signing over the talented youngster, and only on rare occasions do I want to see a star player signed <cough.... James Graham... cough...>. We may get criticized for stealing youngsters, but with our poor junior base it's difficult not to. Then we get criticized for signing big name players instead.... As far as I'm concerned if the player in question prefers our club to another one then it's free game. Other clubs have to stop with this self-entitled bullshit they have going on. It's a business and you want the best staff for your business...

I have to agree with TOK on this one.
I must admit I am not all that excited about it. Firstly, we have signed about half a dozen unconfirmed players since the GF. People were knocking our signing of Justin Carney because of his height. This kid is just 1cm taller and 15kgs lighter. He is also 7cm shorter and 10kgs lighter than Graham. He may have some good stats in NYC but surely nobody takes those stats too seriously. An awesome signing he is not if we have signed him. I think if Carney is over his injury he can be an awesome signing for us. Carney is as strong as a bull, has speed and can tackle.
