  • Roosters and Injuries - A 3 Year Investigation

With all the talk about Roosters and injuries hampering our ability to compete alongside not being able to list our most strongest 17 every week , I decided to do some investigating into the Roosters squad over the past 3 seasons and to see how many games every player has played through the seasons of 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The players I'm going to list have played under 70% of available games throughout each listed season and are players that would be considered out and out starters every week:

    2020 - 22 Total Games (20 Rounds + 2 Finals Games):
Players who played less than 70% of games:

Boyd Cordner - 13 Games Played
Angus Crighton - 15 Games Played
Victor Radley - 7 Games Played
Daniel Tupou - 15 Games Played
Sam Verills - 5 Games Played

    2021 - 27 Total Games (25 Rounds + 2 Finals Games):
Players who played less than 70% of games:

Lindsey Collins - 6 Games Played
Jake Friend - 1 Game Played
Luke Keary - 3 Games Played
    Brett Morris 7 Games Played
Victor Radley - 16 Games Played
Sam Verrills - 14 Games Played

    2022 - 26 Total Games (25 Rounds + 1 Finals Game):
Players who played less than 70% of games:

Lindsey Collins - 16 Games Played
    SST - 18 Games Played
Sitili Tupouniua - 16 Games Played
Sam Verillis - 15 Games Played

Very interesting stats there RB. When you put it that way, I wonder if the club let Verrills go, partly based on those numbers.

Honestly was a shame to see Verrills go, he was very good when he was able to stay on the field consistently. I hope the gamble pays off in relation to the cheese but in terms of playmaking, Verrills seems better in that department.

So far I think the Roosters were better off keeping Verrills instead of getting The Cheese. Early days I realise and like you, I hope it pays off eventually.

Sammy Verillis is a great little player, love the bloke.

But he is made of glass.

Wish him all the best, but I think you can't afford to have your No.1 specialist rake so injury prone.

          It's a crucial position.
