  • Our next fullback should be Manu

With all this talk about Teddy and Suaalii wanting to be the next fullback, I actually think Manu should be next cab off the rank. Robbo and Politis are very loyal so it will be up to Teddy, no way he is ever kicked out. This loyalty breeds great culture.
Manu might also slot into 5/8th when Keary retires so the problem might resolve itself.
IMO while Suaalii shows a lot of promise he still has along way to go to match Manu or Teddy as a week in week out FB

    I agree with all this.

Suaali’s ball playing needs work, still early days but something he needs to knuckle down on.

I haven't seen anything yet from Suaalii that would suggest he would be one of the best fullbacks in the comp if he was to swtich in the next year or two. He struggles to play in structure, he hasn't displayed any ball playing ability and he still plays like he's the biggest kid on the field trying to trample over people rather than running into holes/around them. A lot of this is education and it will come with time I have no doubt, his balance, power and workrate for a young kid is as good as I've ever seen but he's still a long way off being a first grade fullback.

Manu already is one of the best fullbacks in the comp, he just isn't playing there. He is comfortably the number 2 option currently in our squad.

The more I see Suaalii the more i see a potentially great wide running backrower.

        That's what he is.

I hope we don't fall into the trap of just giving Suallii whatever position he wants. Even at centre he looks out of his depth.

He is big, strong, and brave...... but a bit dumb,

I don't know if he can pass or kick.

He's not fast for a back 5 player.

He could be the next SBW.

Sualii reminds me of a Bradley Cyde type of player rather than a fullback at this stage of his career. Would love to see him develop as wide ranging lock/second row if Manu goes in to replace Teddy.

He can't run around defenders, he isn't close to being fast.

                I agree, I dont think he is a 1

If Keary retires or has another extended lay off due to a head knock, Manu will slot into the No. 6 position with ease.

There's a bit of Kikau about his game so I agree.

If it's only about pace, I doubt Manu is any faster than Suaallii. But he does read the play better and has a better footy brain at this stage, so he should probably be the FB. But long term, I reckon we need a bigger body at 5/8 so this might be his go.

Manu will be our 5/8 no doubt.

Am I totally off the mark to say I'd rather see Teddy at 5/8 than Manu? Teddy has proven to have a deft kicking and passing game in a way we've not really seen from Joey.

In a world where there's no Keary, I'd be tempted to go: 1. Manu 3. Suaalii 6. Teddy.

I think Suaalii would benefit from going through the same process Latrell/Inglis went through, bit of time in the centres while he grows into his body and gets more familiar with the pressure of top flight rugby league. Then after 3-4 years if he wants to go hunt more money at FB, he's got the last 8-10 years of his career to do so.
I support two NRL teams, the Roosters and whoevers playing Souths

Manu will be 30 when Tedescos new deal expires I can’t imagine he has a long term fullback future then

                              What's Joey's kicking game like?
