To succeed at hooker in today's game, you have to comfortably be able to cover halfback if the need arose. Does anyone actually believe Friend could wear the no.7 jersey if Pearce were to go down injured during a game? Not a farking chance.
He is slow in every aspect of the game. Passing, decision making, and actual running. The only thing he has got going for him is that he gets involved in a lot of tackles. I say gets involved because he absolutely never makes 1 on 1 tackles, and regularly just jumps up high and gets pushed back till JWH or Kennedy arrive to stop the momentum of the runner.
I used to believe Pearce was the lynch pin stiffling our attack, however when Mitchell has been starting for 2 games, for those 30 minutes Pearce actually looks alive out there. To me that points the problem at Friend.
IMO Friend could be a decent backrower/hooker, coming on to give Mitchell a rest for 15 minutes a half and then maybe staying on and playing lock when Mitchell comes back on.
Was his bark quieter in 2011 ?
Or maybe Carney never organised anything but drink-ups at the cross.
PS. Mitchell started in the last game against the Tits. We had nothing in attack. We came alive and scored most of our points with Jake on the field. Now i don't think that it had anything to do with Friend (a line break did help) but it goes to highlight that your suggestion is ludicrous.

Especially SKD who needs room to move, is it that hard, two quick ball's, lets give him a chance, the problem starts with Friend!!

Came alive??
We scored 2 tries off back to back sets.... then were not sighted again doing anything remotely creative for the other 78 minutes of the game.
Mitchell basically played a Jake Friend-esque game that night, making a shitload of tackles and then doing not much with the ball. Yet he got dropped for the performance while Friend was rewarded with his first shot at 80 mins in the hooking role all year... and in 30+ degree heat no less.
As for Carney, you can stick your head in the sand as long as you want, but the simple fact is the only time our team has looked remotely dangerous in 6 years was the 12 months that carney led our attack. He'd already lost the support of the senior playing group a couple rounds into last year and it was clear key players were no longer following him. Thats why he did not perform as well in 2011

If players don't get dropped when they consistently play bad, then they get comfortable and guys that deserve a shot miss out. Send Jake back to Newtown for a few weeks and see how we go with Mitchell as starting dummy half, subbed by Mortimer. Captain invisible can also go for a stint till the end of the season as he is just rubbish. This also sends a clear signal to the rest of the team, that if you want to play FG then you have to put your body on the line and earn it.
I can handle us losing, not even the superleaguenewsltdcheat teams win all their games but as long as our guys turn up, put in and have a fair dinkum crack then that is fine. But the rubbish that they dished out last night is simply unacceptable from professional footballers, and some of the worst offenders were some of senior players in the team - even the ever reliable Mitch Aubusson was ten shades of rubbish last night.
I feel really sorry for Jack Bosden and Peni Tagive, I spoke to Jack last week and he and Peni have been busting their butts trying to get into the FG team and then they finally do and the team dishes out tripe like that. What's a bet they are probably the only two that will get dropped. I used to be a Smithy fan but he is quickly losing me as he doesn't appear to have a game plan, plays stupid mind games with the players and doesn't appear to hurt like I and fellow fans do after a loss.
Someone also needs to teach SKD how to tackle, he just refuses to use his shoulders and a results ends up being a turnstyle, he is great in attack, but his defence is about as bad as it gets.

he wasn't interested because he couldnt stand smith and a couple of morally superior players.

Friend actually didn't start a lot of games at hooker in 2010. Jaubs would start, play the opening 20 minutes or so then Friend would come on and play the remaining 60 minutes.
Smith did however drop Jaubs for the grand final, deciding that the biggest game of all was the perfect time to experiment on whether or not Friend was an 80 minute player and threw Lopini Paea into the team instead. That was a Smithy special....

Friend form at the moment is shocking, but he'll bounce back, for the time being mitchell really needs to start.

Here is a quote from an article in the SMH with Carnteys words on who did the organizing in 2010. Link : http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/l...415-1x1of.html
''I feel I'm doing a job that 'Flanno' [Shane Flanagan] wants me to do, what the team needs,'' Carney said.
''Obviously with Pearcey at the Roosters I just had to run the ball most of the time. That was my role there, whereas here it's a little bit more organisation and getting the team to areas on the ground.
''My running will come, if I see opportunities I will run, but where I'm at at the moment I'm feeling comfortable. I like where I'm heading and I like where the Sharks are heading.''
My problem with Friendly is his frustration with his and the teams form, and it's coming out in his discipline, he's giving away silly Hold down and hand on the ball penalties weekly. His and our attack problems IMO is due to having only one option in Pearce. It's why teams have no probs with us cos we offer zero from the 5/8 or FB in attacking or ball playing options.
