Normally I am very optomistic, and really looking forward to the footy season, but something about this year has me very doubtful it will be a good one for us.

The difference between out top 17 and the team who run out if we have 3 top liners injured is dramatic. I don't think we have the cover we should have, and I don't know if we have the hunger we should have. I also don't understand why we are currently among the highest errors and highest penalised, I don't think we can win the comp this year, or any year soon, and that's a big call from me because i have always thought we were a chance every year. But somethings just not right.

You could be right but then compare us to everyone else and we sit in a much better position, there’s alot of other teams with negatives. I think it will be

2. Souths
3. Panthers
4. Sharks/Cowboys

You make some fair points.

Others are a bit dramatic.

Biggest concerns for me is Keary (injury/retirement) and overall on field leadership.

Without Keary we don't win the comp this year - period. Hoping he can avoid any issues.

The South's game last year really illustrated the leadership issue. There was no strong character like a Cords or Cronk to pull everyone's head in and correct the ship. We ended up looking lost out there. There was something missing in the leadership.

Jwh is too emotional Teddy, though not bad as captain, I have always felt is limited and a touch too egocentric to be a top shelf leader.
Keary comes off as bit too much of a lone wolf. Not the right persona.
Crighton is sadly suffering so not in the right space to lead.

Nat Butcher is the one bloke who appears to have the right head (between the ears) to be that captain. Can't see it happening though.

The captaincy fell into Teddy’s lap as Keary wasn’t playing at the time. I believe if they were both around then Keary would have been captain. I think Teddy does a great job but I really think Keary would be better.

We have averaged 2 wins from every 3 games for the last 3 years.
I don't see us improving on that this year.
If we can maintain that average and win 16 from 24 we will probably finish 4th,.
If we drop 2 of those 16 wins we MIGHT just make the 8.
We need a good run with injuries to make it.
If Keary, JWH and Toops get injured.
If Angus doesn't come back..???
If Lodge, Rads or Smith get suspended ?
Plenty of reasons to be concerned.
We have to improve our defence, our error rate and our discipline.
But we have a GREAT coach.... so we will be fine... RIGHT ??

I agree with the captaincy thoughts.

Teddy is a player that is the busiest on the park in attack and defence, being captain I think makes him feel he needs to do even more.

he doesn’t sound confident when talking to the refs, and even in press conferences he seems twitchy and doesn’t give off real positive aura.

great player, and obviously doing his best, but I think VC is a good role for him, as 13 said, the captaincy fell into his lap by default, losing cords, friend and Cronk within a year or so, hasn’t helped, and I don’t think we have found the perfect replacement yet.

plenty of counter arguments, especially since he is the NSW and Australian captain, but in those teams, he is surrounded by other players who are captains of their own respective clubs. I think teddy is best when he can just concentrate on his own game at the roosters.

A bit pessimistic to say the least.
The cheese will make a massive difference to the roosters middle. Also with Lodge , we should win most battles in the middle and as far as points go it's a star studded backline.
