  • Roosters hospital visits

    Hi fellow chookpeners,

I have a favour to ask as some of you may be well connected.

My little niece was diagnosed with Leukaemia around Christmas and has spent the last few weeks at the Sydney Childrens Hospital getting treatment. The family are staying at Ronald McDonald House travelling up and back from the Gong when they can which has been quite tough on them all.

They are all big Roosters supporters including my niece. I was hoping to get in touch with someone at the club to organise a visit especially given its only around the corner in Randwick.

If anyone has connections or can point me in the right direction please DM.

    Farian.

Wishing your niece and the whole family all the very best Roosterfarian - I had a similar situation with my nephew many years ago. He leads a full and happy life now, though there is no doubt it changed him as a person and had a profound impact on those closest to him. Sorry, I can't help with your request, I am not connected to the club in any way. I hope someone else can get it done for you.

          Hi Farian,

Firstly, I am very sorry to read this about your niece and I wish you and your family all the best. My own parents went through this back in the 1960's with my sister who passed at age 6, before I was born, and they travelled back and forth to Brisbane from the country. I also lost my grandfather, uncle and a significant other person to leukaemia.

So I will personally contact the club for you and see what I can do. Jake also owns the cafe at the hospital .

Side note, I'm leading a team for a 10km walk next week for cancer research and as I type this, we've raised $619,535.00 so far and the company will match staff donations. I'm leading fundraiser for my own team and the guy next highest is a Roosters fan . We are the best at everything, including taking care of each other here in our little community. I've already let Renty know I'll be walking on behalf of his family also too.

For anyone else out there also going through a hard time, please reach out if we can help. Even if it's just to chat and unwind away from the stresses of attending appointments. We have 4 family members with cancer and it's very stressful and draining. Coming on here and having an LOL@youknow who or posting some songs to cheer us up or sharing a recipe or movie review gives us a little respite from it all.

Apparently my message quota is full so I can't send you anything via PM however I found this link in the meantime.

Generally your best method is to call up the leagues club front desk and they will pass you on to the appropriate person.

I'm not sure if NRL players are doing (or even allowed) hospital visits again yet (during the season) due to the increased risk of catching covid, the club will certainly have no issue asking your niece to pick the player of her choice to have a video call with at a minimum though.

Hearing of sick kids is horrible.

Thoughts and prayers for the young lady and I hope someone here can assist in your request. Putting a smile on a child’s face is a huge part of the recovery.

Hey mate, so sad to hear.

100% jump on Instagram and message JWH. He definitely interacts a bit on there and has helped a few people I know out, so you might be lucky and he will reply.

Write / phone the Roosters Marketing Dept directly.
                    They will listen.

Sending my best wishes for your niece and truly feel for her and her entire support network including yourself mate.

My son was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2017 and pretty much lived in the hospital for 12 months. He is now 15 and almost 5 years in remission. Stay strong, it does get better.

she definitely is in the best hospital in the world (in my opinion) to deal with childhood cancer. The oncology teams at Randwick are amazing.

like others have pointed out, your best bet is to reach out to the roosters directly, they would let you know when the roosters are due to do the rounds in the hospital and should be able to give her a visit.

The lads do visit a lot quite regularly. So do the Bunnies players.

We ran into Jake Friend a few times at his cafe across the street a few times, it’s called high st society (I think from memory). He was always happy to have a chat and take photos.

                            All the best.

All the best Roosterfarian. I am with naif regarding the Children's Hospital. I have spent a lot of time there with my son and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
