I thought Paulo carried well, which if JS moves to centre we will need. Can only help playing outside Manu as well. El-Zakhm was great.

Thought Ben Thomas was pretty strong.

I thought he was solid with his hit ups.. didn’t really bend the line too much but his effort was there. In saying that, he was responsible for a couple of line breaks.. when he had to move laterally he got found out with his lack of pace and was burnt.

Should not matter. I will back up OP here regarding Sammy. He needs to seriously stop rushing out of the line.. has a tendency to do it and not get his man which then leaves us with a gap in our line and defenders second guessing themselves because of it

Was it one of the Va'a boys the bald kid in number 23? Whoever that was looked good. I thought other good performers included the fullback Ethan King, Sandon, May Victor as always and Lodge.

Yes BBR twas Xavier Va'a sporting the Fitzy look.
Lodge was our second half standout.
Every run had purpose and his offloads make us seem dangerous.....one led to a try today.

Few takes from the game

• Anyone who has played first grade before stood out - eg Thomas in first half, Lodge in second
• Sandon Smith has filled out
• Good to see Kurt Sherlock in the RWB again
• Tui Katoa looks promising
• Xavier Va’a could play first grade this year
• Egan Butcher has stripped fit
• Terrell May should put pressure on the 17
• Liked how Trent played Turpin at 6 for versatility.

Plenty of depth.

If anything, I'm glad we took the trial seriously because we can now sort-out stuff like that before the season starts.

Whereas last year we went into round 1 still asleep and took way too long to put together some form. Hope our start this year's much better!

The ladder works off in game stats as well as the win, (offlloads,line breaks etc,) by doing this they wanted to encourage attacking football.
