  • who will go up and down this year and why?

Had an annual discussion on the new season with a mate and for the first time in years we were on the same page which is unusual.
so general consensus from us was

    top 4
Penrith ( still bloody good )
North Queensland( last year no fluke and v good coach)
Melbourne ( caveat that with Papenhauzen fit and Christian Welsh fit) and
Roosters. ( we should improve after last year….so much depends upon Keary and the new recruit from Melbourne……I felt he was poor last year by his standards )

    bottom 4 of the 8
Sharks( probably overachieved and haven’t recruited. )
    Canberra. ( always there about)
    Souths ( see above)
Parra ( lost a player or two and last year was probably their chance )

    close to the 8.
Dogs. Obvious recruitment drive but struggle to score points.
Tigers we disagreed on this. On don’t rate Sheens like others do. New recruits are a welcome but not saviours
Brisbane.probably as athletically talented as Penrith but just don’t know how to play as a team. Full of individuals who were child superstars but struggle with consistency and sacrifice

    the dregs.
    Aukland. Just always shit
Manly. My mate reckons Siebold is shit house. I think Flanagan is assistant so that will help. The bloke is a see you next Tuesday but can coach.
GC. Disappointing last year. They always slip back into mediocrity
Saints. Captain Hook might get the chop this year. Money should be on him first to go. You punt your assistants then you are on life support cause you are the one that hired them and then used them as scape goats
the new Brisbane team Redcliffe. Shit roster. Old coach running the show.
Newcastle. Roster not good enough and coach seems bereft of ideas and energy

        Top 4:
        Riff
        Easts
        Souffs (sadly)
        Melb

        Improvers:
        Tigers
        Dogs
Manly (hate Shebold but think if Turbo fit they will fire)

        Decline:
        Sharks (overachieved)
        Cows (overachieved)
Parra (window well and truly closed)
Broncos (bottom 3 side, Kev won't last the season)
Saints (can't get any worse but I predict the spoon for them ahead of Flippers).

Rest of them will be making up the numbers in their usual ladder positions (i.e. Warriors, Teets, Newcastle)

Cows didn’t leave QLD for the first third of the year. Expect a correction this time

I think Melbourne will be up there despite losing some forward depth. They have a great spine and whoever Belly promotes always seems to do a great job for them.

Hard to say except that Penrith if they play the way they have been playing the past 3 years will be hard to beat.

Other teams will need to lift their game and even though Penrith have lost a few players it's like a production line out that way so they will remain ultra competitive because of they way they play.

Roosters - A wait and see if they have the consistent 80 minute game week in week out to be a genuine contender.

Stats show the intensity and attention to detail wanes during certain periods of a game and that's when the errors mount and ill discipline becomes a problem as does playing sides they should beat and don't

These need to be addressed to be deemed a real contender

Storm/Souths/Parra/Sharks and Cowboys will be competitive

                Improvers - Manly/Dogs/Tigers/Broncos

Manly owe it to their fans after the lackluster end to their season - Dogs and Tigers are building and Broncos could become a contender if they can improve their concentration and consistency in games.

Unknowns - Knights / Dragons/ Titans/ Warriors and Dolphins- although to be fair it's their first season - Like Forest Gump said " Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

If not us, I'd like to see Penrith do 3 in a row. Such a dominant young squad.

If Bellamy Robbo or ol Wayne but especially Bellamy were coaching the Broncos they would be a top 4 side maybe Premiers.
                    Geez I like their players.

If the Chooks, Penrith, Souths & Melbourne stay fit 1 of them will win the comp.
I would love to see the Tigers make the 8.

Grand Final - Have a feeling it'll be Roosters v Rabbitohs this year boys. I hope so, but i kind of don't hope so. The pain if we lost would possibly induce a minor heart attack.

Big improvers - Bulldogs, Broncos. Both will make the 8.

The top 8 (in rough order) - Rabbitohs, Panthers, Roosters, Broncos, Sharks, Storm, Cowboys, Bulldogs.

Fall from grace - Eels, Storm. May make the 8, may not. Either way, they are both on the wrong side of the window.

The disgrace - Knights for wooden spoon. Ponga is there only hope, and he will go down being made of glass. Culture is crap. Coaching is poor.

I don't think souffs will do as well as many think.
The squads been shot down late too many times, and I don't rate their coach.

                        Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

I don't see any way we don't improve

                          - Walker another year under the belt
                          - Keary settling back in
                          - Smith
                          - Lindsay back
                          - Suallii more ball
                          - Someone takes Momo's place?
