  • Club Legends Guiding Next Gen of Roosters Stars

After contributing to the Club on the field for over a decade and a half, Mitchell Aubusson and Jake Friend are now guiding the next crop of future Roosters.

Just a few years after winning Premierships in the Red, White and Blue, the retired pair have headed up the Sydney Roosters' Academy Program as CEO and Head Coach respectively.

And alongside Head of Recruitment & Junior Player Development Daniel Anderson, Aubusson and Friend recently ventured to the NSW north coast with 21 of the most talented under-16s players on a five-day camp as they look to get a glimpse of the future.

“We had a combined Academy and Pathways under 16s group comprised of some of our best up-and-coming players as well as a number we hadn’t seen throughout the recent lockdown period,” Aubusson explained.

“The squad ranged from Sydney locals, players from the Central Coast, New Zealand and Queensland, covering all bases. A lot of these guys didn’t know each other when we brought them together.

Love it KS and thanks for posting. One of our most grounded players working alongside one of our toughest. Brilliant..

I think it's great so long as its managed properly. Not sure there's many men on this planet who can say they've given as much as those guys have to our jersey.

It is a trend under Robbo though to hire internally, I worry a little as the old Boys at the Broncos, Bulldogs and Knights who have gone in and out of being involved in the clubs can be very destructive publicly in the media as they are seen as a voice of authority and seem to cause division more than they do solutions.

I back the character of Bmoz, Cronk, Mini, Ricko, Aubs and Friendy who all seem to be still involved with the club to be better than that but it is the risk.

I don't think that's a problem while Robbo is driving the bus. Those guys respect him too much to go outside the square.

100% but I also thought that about Bennett and the Broncos and that club has been a laughing stock for the past decade. So much so even when Bennett returned it wasn't anywhere close to the same.

Compare the character of those ex players you mentioned with Walters, Tallis and Parker. We will not go down the broncos path.

              Thanks for posting KS.
How good would it be at 16 going on a footy camp with Jake & Aubo especially if you followed the Roosters.
Friendy is a busy man, he's got his own plumbing business (Friendy Plumbing) plus a cafe at Randwick & he's involved with the Chooks.
Ive seen Jake Friend a few times without a jersey on & he has one of the best physique you'll ever see.

There’s development & then there’s training… under this current regime with right the people here driving the system, imo the Rooster’s develop young players as good as any… contrary to popular belief (or just plain hating)… there’s a good harvest coming from all this toil… I think Ando, Aubo, Friendy (to name a few) are doing a wonderful job getting the house in order… yes the much publicised Penrith success through 3 grades (not including NRL, which is the pinnacle for all) … but the Roosters in 4 grades were within striking distance of their ultimate prize… says to me, we’re not far off the pace… & a bit more tweaking to rectify things… looking forward to what 2023 & beyond will bring!

It's good for the soul to have a purpose in life and have somewhere to get up and go every morning once footy is over. Jake did very well in the HSC also and his mother is a teacher.

Give it a couple of years and I reckon Aubo will be replaced by the Hutchinator.

I seem to recall Cheese saying after he signed with us, that it was listening to Aubbo talk about the club which inspired him to want to join the Roosters !

Can you see Jake or Maubs coaching our reserve grade team in 2023?

Maybe Cords. What is his current role at the club. He’s always in the dressing room pre and post game.
