  • Depth outside backs ??

    Recently:
    Naiqama
    Hall
    Brad Abbey
    Etc etc
Most have been very very average but obviously take up very little cap space and serve a purpose. Hall was probably on a little more than the others
Dont laugh at me but I just saw Nene McDonald is named for PNG. At 28 I wonder if he has anything left to offer ?

At 193cm and over 100kg size isn't an issue. Probably on my own here but has experience and is proven in FG. As a back up on minimal coin he would be worth a risk

Plays ESL now for Leigh Centurions.- Nene McDonald

Don't want to bang on about it - They should sign Dominic Young for 2024 onwards

Spot on with Young. He would thrive with us. Quite a few teams would be keen on him I suspect

The trade off of having Teddy, Toops, Manu and Suaalii is that the plan B options are always going to be pretty ordinary.

I think the club has done the right thing taking a few punts on older players/senior reserve graders but we have had some really mixed results in doing so.

It hasn't helped that I can't recall the last decent winger who came through our junior grades. No issues developing top line centres but RTS would have to be the last who played 18's and 20's at the club and went on to have a good season as a winger, even then he was just treading water waiting for the fullback role.

Toia seemed to be the outstanding three-quarter candidate coming through the junior grades, but he's done his ACL so unlikely he will feature next year.

Nene's journey was a bit disappointing ay?

After leaving us for the Dragons he was having a cracker (fans loved him). Then, he activated some clause that enabled him to go to NQ (with a decent pay bump).

NQ? He got dropped for turning up late, had a traffic incident and was moved on. Something something... he went to England and carved up (like any ex-NRL winger).

I used to like him as he was capable of putting in a Toops-esque performance on the right day. Lacked the same stability/consistency/attitude though? Guessing he's now past it as he never quite met his potential.

Problem is Billy is always injured, played 12 games over the last 4 years in first grade...so we need a replacement for the continually injured Billy....

                              Surely his luck turns.

Another guy called Matt Duffy played 62 games in 5 years for the Storm & was a top player like Billy Smith.
                              2011 Shoulder dislocation surgery
2012 came back & dislocated his shoulder again surgery
2013 He tore his L ACL in Rd 4 surgery
2014 Pre season training he ruptured the same L ACL surgery

                              Duffy said after he retired
In 2012, when I was 23 years old I was struck down with my second ACL injury, after 4 shoulder reconstructions. Booking in for my 8th surgery, I thought and truely believed it was all over. With the support of my family and friends, I managed another 8 seasons and mostly injury-free considering my early years. He was an All Black after he left League.
