  • Is the independent HIA Doctor Independent?

I've been seething about this since Sunday.

Cameron Murray is concussed the previous week and has to pass protocol to play in Sunday's game.

You would think based on last week's symptoms he would have realistically been touch and go to play.

Yet, during Sunday's game Murray is down on his knees clearly showing signs of a head knock and the 'independent' doctor doesn't feel it's necessary for him to be checked for an HIA?

There's something really suss about that and I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up in the media.

I believe the NRL needs to provide more transparency around the in-game HIA and post game passing of protocols.

It was brought up on radio today that the AFL has a mandatory 12 day break for any players that fail an HIA. I believe that the NRL should have the same rules. It's the same brain and some would argue that the NRL has more head contact than AFL.

The super league just moved to a 10 day mandatory break. The science on increased recovery time after a head knock seems to be clear, if the NRL don't react with the increased knowledge around concussions they will leave themselves open to litigation.

I really respect Murray as a player, he's one of the few from that club who goes about the game in the right way. But he needs to be protected from himself, there's no doubt he wasn't right on Sunday, that incident should've been enough for anyone who cares about him to bring him off the field.

I really hope he gets through the finals series without another head knock cause I fear that was his second in as many weeks and that's concerning.

It was discussed on NRL 360. They showed 2 (or maybe 3) incidents where Murray was on the ground. Kenty who loves his boxing, accused Murray of playing the same tricks of a knocked down boxer. Basically stay down for a few seconds before trying to stand up so it is not obvious that you are concussed.

        100%

I am staggered we let TKO back on too. He was in Disneyland. I’d hate to think we did it because of the desperate game situation and the fact he won’t be here next year.

I thought he was out for the game 100% after the way he played the ball, surprised he got back on the field.

Rugby now has a compulsory 12 day standown period for players that fail HIA's the same as the AFL - Both had similar protocols as League - 7 days.

One would assume the League will follow suit

During the previous presser, Murray said something like 'it's up to me... I report whether I have symptoms so if I'm feeling fine, I'll play next week'.

I forget the exact wording but to me he came across as saying 'I'm playing next week and nobody can stop me because I'm not gonna report symptoms, even if I've got them'.

In contrast - Teddy reportedly passed his HIA and then chose not to get back on the field. IMO that's why you play for Easts. Ethics and player welfare! $1m a season is worth fark all if you're gonna retire with brain damage.

IMO if one of our players had said something like that, Robbo woulda hooked him and told him he isn't playing the next week.

Murray was off with the fairies all game.

It was desdset sickening to watch such blatant disregard for a player's brain health in 2022.

if murray was coached how to disguise concussion we clearly didn't give tauks the same coaching. get up, play the ball, doesn't matter what direction.

i'm really going to miss tauks

Murray seems the sort of bloke that just wants to play hard and fair. Reminds me of Cords, which is a huge compliment. I got angry watching him lay down for a bit for a penalty on Sunday but in hindsight he was likely stunned from the tackle, as he was 2 or 3 times during the game. Definitely shouldn't have played.

FA Cup ears Demetriou seems to be a win at all costs grub and I have zero doubt that he put a target on Teddy and that was no accident. I also have my doubts that Murray was ever NOT going to play last Sunday regardless of his concussion issues. If Murray was a Rooster, he wouldn't have played.

Cameron Murray has become one of the biggest milkers in the game, it’s sickening to watch!

Obviously we have a different independent doctor to other teams, it seems our players are always ruled out of the game with Hias and always miss the following week, i have no doubt we would have been without Teddy and Gus next week, add in Manu, Toops, JWH and we were screwed anyway

If Murray wants to be a brain dead vegetable by the time he’s 45 then let him
