  • Saying goodbye to Rugba League

My first Roosters game was back in 1978 and the unofficial Anzac Day game. I was one of the 25,004 (my father, brother, mother and I were the 4) who say them beat St George 22-6. I've been a fan ever since.

Win or lose, and there were times in the late 80's and early 90's when that's all the Roosters seemed to do, I was a fan and of League itself. But a succession of, frankly incompetent, administrators has driven the game into the dirt. This year it's become untenable, the pride jersey fiasco, the rule changes and the suspended suspensions were the final straw. So I've decided I'm finished watching rugby league, perhaps for good.

I have other sporting interests, like the MLB and Formula 1. So I'm not going to smarting for sports entertainment, to steal a phrase. If the NRL gets administrators who have some idea of what they're doing and they bring the game back to something close to what it is, I'll come back.

I doubt it's going to happen though.

The game has become unwatchable the last 3 seasons.
There's just way too much nitpicking and looking for reasons to penalise and sin bin players and then ultimately diving is rewarded

The game has turned to shit for sure but my love of the roosters will always somehow trump that dislike, lol

              I tend to agree.

Today was a hard watch with the refs rewarding souths for milking every chance they got

You are going to be disappointed with F1 then. It is now more about aerodynamics than the drivers and manufacturers, and will become much worse with the planned 2026 rule changes.

At least rugby league is still mostly about the ability of the teams. I note that despite all the bad luck and controversy today, we butchered about 4 tries and largely controlled our own destiny.

The game has turned to shit, and my expectations of a game with minimal ref interference has disappeared, I’ll always watch it, but the losses don’t bite anymore like they used too.

Today was a horrific game, and I don’t mean by the teams, but by the ref.

I used to love formula 1, almost can’t watch it anymore, I love the moto GP though.

hope to see you still posting Johnny boy.

My disdain has nothing to do with today. I didn’t watch due to personal circumstances.

You'll probably be back next year, but I recommend you spend some time watching the AFL if you don't already. These days it's a significantly better product, run by professionals, truly national, and not as easily manipulated by referees and countless rule changes. This is validated by what networks were prepared to pay for their new TV deal. It's a shame, because rugby league is inherintly the better sport, but Vlandis has run this game into the ground.

The Roosters still have sides playing in jJersey Flegg and NRLW.

I follow different sports too such as AFL (Richmond) - NFL (New England Patriots ) -MLB (Atlanta Braves ) - EPL (Nottingham Forest ) - all have had their ups and downs and match official interpretation problems.

Atlanta Braves at one stage were going that bad that the Owner Ted Turner told the Manager Fave Bristol to take 10 days off and took over as Manager for 1 game

Can't win every season which makes the seasons they do even better
