  • Whats going on with the penalties?

If anyone has taped that crap today have a look at Friend, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves a few more but these blokes are the worst week in week out, they lay on the tackled player long after the ref has said release, just turn the volume up you can hear it clearly, the ref was even telling those two individually to speed it up, get yours hands off the ball, get yours hands off the player. Penalty after penalty same thing holding the player down, week in week out. Now the first try was due to a roll on from a penalty for holding down. Does anyone know why any one on the coaching staff hasn't corrected this?????? It looks that bad like its done on purpose. Cant blame the refs, just watch the footage.

Can blame the refs...our opposition each week can basically do the same things and not get penalised.

Add Kennedy to those two...the three off them should be TOLD.

How about the tackled players holding on to the jerseys of the tackler and pretending to be held down.

Yeah when JWH got penalised for holding down late in the second half on our line Kennedy could not believe the ref was so blind. By that point I'm sure our boys had given up on getting a fair go from the refs. The very next tackle the Melbourne player did the exact same thing and the ref was yelling at our blokes to get off. Open your farking eyes you imbeciles!!!

I'm not pissed off at Melbourne. It's not their fault they get gifted field position and that the refs turn a blind eye while they're defending, because quite often it's simply because they have trained hard in order to be superior at hiding their hold down tactics. It's just frustrating that the refs are so incompetent that they don't even recognise such tactics.

And don't get me started on the video ref. How that bloke has a job I got no idea...

http://stats.rleague.com/rl/misc/penalties.html#2012 I cant figure this table out but it might hold some relevant stats.

Personally I hate when we get penalised all game, then receive a flurry of penalties towards end when the game is all but over and on the final report the penalty count looks respectfully somewhat 'balanced'.

Fortunately I missed the game tonight but they may have been trying to slow the ball down to shake the cheaters momentum

Well i watched the replay....turned it up, and saw melbourne being told the same thing...but never penalised....You can tell our players are dis heartened by it, They know the refs give them a hard time, the only way not to be penalised is if we let the other team play the ball much fasted then we do..if we slow it down like they do to us we get penalised. its been happening for years, and im tired of it, I walked away from the TV after our try wasnt awarded..i have had enough.

What about the first penalty of the game. Obviously a loose carry by melbourne, yet we get penalised??

Realised they got another one exactly the same.

I wonder what the coaching staff actually do each week. The same players have been making the same errors for years now !

Certain referees ref to the perception of the team. Badger is a perfect example; he favours the higher ranking team or the home team. In the refereeing courage stakes, he has the heart half the size of the pea in his whistle. Archer prances around and pretends to be a fair ref but the game today was a good example of their penalty perception, just after we had a sustained period on the Melbourne line. The next 5 or so penalties broke our spirit and we were done. So,if you look at that string of penalties it was critical determining the size of the victory, remembering Melbourne would still have undoubtedly won. It happens too often and hopefully Brian Smith goes to Harrigan and asks him to put a line through Badger and Archer as far as referering are concerned until such time they referee a little like Harrigan himself who wasn't concerned about getting on the wrong side of home crowds.

Our first set of 6 from the kick off was solid with a good kick and chase, turned to my friends and said "penalty here before 5th tackle". I think it was 3rd or 4th tackle, penalty....Pretty match game over from there.

It's the little things that the refs control that are easily forgotten. It was 6-0 just before their second try and we were on top. They had their first 3 tackles inside our 20 and were going nowhere. Next 3 play the balls they all stepped at least a metre and a half to the right of the mark. This put our markers in no position to defend and two quick scoots from Smith gave them a total gain of 66m and they were setting up to put an attacking kick in on the 20.

For the first half our forwards were completely on top despite the one-eyed refereeing. Most of the Melbourne metres in that first half were from short side raids, not up the middle. But you cannot give the Storm a start and the refs knew this full well. As soon as they scored off the first set in the second half they knew they could throw caution to the wind and we were f**ked from then on.

I agree 100% with what you say. Can someone tell me how a video ref can get it so wrong? We were never going to have it easy with Archer as ref, I think these ref's need to be accountable for their actions. I want to see the same rules for both teams.
