What is worse is our capacity to magically improve the discipline of our opponents too. Teams that struggle to find the discipline required to tie their shoelaces one week and are heavily penalised, dramatically improve when the play us.

Wearing red, white and blue not only does terrible things to our own players, but also inspires our opponents to stop giving away penalties (often just for a week).

I've been told by other supporters that I have a "victim mentality" when it comes to the issue of the Roosters and penalties. There's no point arguing with them, even armed with stats which clearly show the "RWB Opposition Effect".

Generally speaking I think for most supporters it is a bit of both. Yes we cop some bad refereeing decisions on a regular basis. However, we have failed to adapt to this and are often penalised rightfully. Personally, I don't buy into the anti-Roosters refereeing/NRL driven agenda that many on here believe is reality.

Isn't it entertaining how difficult this aspect is to explain for those on this forum who think we earn this kind of treatment by the match officials?

That Campese penalty will do me. How many times have we seen one of our blokes floored after a kick and the ref waves it away as OK.

Not to mention it happens a dozen times in the NRL every week without a penalty given.

Meanwhile, Campese falls over his own feet and we get penalised for it! He should have been the one penalised for being so god damn clumsy and getting in the way of our blokes trying to chase the kick.

And how many Canberra knock ons did we get the blame for - that was so blatent it was ridiculous!

The one on Campese was a joke... the ref said JWH shoulder charged him. Steve Lyons saw what he wanted to see yesterday, really wish Shortall was given the senior role yesterday at least he talks to the players with respect and is aware that they don't get it right all of the time rather than thinking his shit doesn't stink.

Steve Lyons gives Ben Cummins a good run for the worst ref going around.

To clarify this issue I don't believe it's the penalties we give away that's the issue with most, it's the penalties we don't seem to receive that really frustrates. Someone did those stats about how the week teams play us they turn perfect and give away so few penalties, well below their averages.

To be honest, after 30 odd years in the coaching game I reckon B Smith would be accustomed to being blamed for all and sundry. It would be like water off a duck's back to him.

He would have quit the coaching game long ago if he couldn't stand the heat. After all it's aways the coach's fault - never the players.

I mean the bloke has survived some of the toughest coaching gigs there are - Drag Queens, Parra and Ferral Druggos. He bought up the quinella when he joined the Roosters. And I have no doubt he will be coaching for a few years to come, whether it be at the Roosters or elswhere. He doesn't seem to me to look like a bloke ready for retirement.

He wasn't the only one. I lost count of the amount of times I directed the 'F word' at the referee whilst sitting in the stands, espec during the first half. I certainly made my opinion known.
