The Roosters are better off sticking on the path to being a development club rather than go back to being a recruitment club.

They don't want to go back to the days of jokes such as the Roosters would sign the Magna Carta if it was a player or be the transit lounge again.

Yes some external recruitment may be required but the majority of players playing NRL should be internally developed as they will know the systems and culture of the club having come through the juniors and lower grades.

We have never lost the tag of just signing who we need to win, and never will.

The jokes are always there about the sombrero and uncle nicks golf games, and if we keep purchasing high end players,will never go away.

Brandon Smith is the latest, and we as fans don’t accept a mediocre season, so we also expect the club to buy us out of trouble, because we have successfully done that for as long as I can remember.

When uncle Nick is no longer part of the club, we may not have that bargaining power again, so I’m happy to make hay while the sun is still shining.

The likes of May or Suluka Fifita could likely perform almost as well as Haas with an extra year or two in first grade.

And we'd save 1 million bucks in the process.

Plus it appears he is an absolute goose....gives off Latrell vibes. Thinks he's more important than his club.

Plus ... on the strategy/risk assessment side of things ..... 1 Haas ACL you're fkd as a club for the year, because your entire spine has been compromised to blow a mill on a prop.

JWH, arguably the best prop in the game, is at about the maximum you pay for a prop - $680,000 - $700,000 is the absolute ceiling in order to not fk up your squad.

Robbo is smart fellas. He knows.

May has more potential in comparison. He's played a few games for Norths this year and got a promotion to the first-grade squad much quicker than DSF when he came onto the scene.


I think May should be given more attention and priority !

A reliable source (Robbo) has told me Haas isn't coming. His word's enough for me.

I'd be disappointed if he said otherwise.
The media has been hassling him over this, so he ain't gonna open up to a fan.
We have to see how this plays out, for as things stand Robbo can say that,for the time being.

Truth is, if Haas wanted to come here , we'd be crazy not to look into it.
Equally we'd be crazy to pay him in the vicinity of a mill.

I have one lingering doubt about a player like Haas. When was the last time a prop who was that good, that young, actually had a long career and managed to maintain that standard? When I think about props who made it big at a young age, O'Meley and Woods come to mind, their careers started with a bang and ended with a whimper. Not many players can take the kind of beating you get as a prop forward at a young age and not also deteriorate younger than most. Maybe it balances out, and if you make NRL at 18, you bow out at 28, or if you make it at 24, you last until 34. I'm only working off my feeble memory, but I wouldn't expect another 10 years out someone like Haas. He might have another half-dozen at top level, but then I reckon he'll start to fade.

I was thinking similar things. What you said plus he seems to have money as his priority which will not fare well in the long run. Short term personal gain sure. Long term gain, not so sure.

What i said wasn't superlative, but seems to have been interpreted that way...

I dont anticipate either May or Suluka will be as good as Haas.

However - and this is super important - I think they will be good, and my contention is, for $350,000 you could get the equivalent 90% of Payne Haas, rather the spending $1,000,000 to get 100% of Payne Hass.

Anyone doubting where im coming from, have a look at the Cowboys. They blew their wad from 2017 onwards on Taumololo. Lolo is a great player, truly exceptional. However that decision compromised the integrity of their overall squad. You haven't seen the Cows anywhere near a title since (although this year they've hit form)

Klemmer is another who springs into my mind as a star at around 20 and was a good player over a number of years but wasted it in mediocre teams. These days is pretty much run of the mill and on the decline.

Jared really started to hit his straps in his 4th season with us, 2013. Yes he was good before then but inconsistent as most young props are. He wasn't an out and out superstar prop in his late teens to early 20s imo.......he built his career nicely......

I actually think he played a bit of backrow at times for us in the first couple of seasons as well, I am pretty sure he put on a bit more bulk between 2012 and 2013 (I think he went from 107 0r 108kg to about 115kg in 2013) once it became apparent he was destined to always play as a bookend. Jared has always been able to adapt the changing game as evidenced by losing a bit of weight a couple of seasons ago to cope with the Vlandys ball game.....

The Cows are still a myth. We are a better side and we are currently second half of the eight. Season is only half over.
