As mentioned above re player development the club often talks it up due to the centre of excellence being established and the past development success
Last season we had around 11 or 12 debutants. Too many to remember!
Of those that I can think of that have had a start/ selection this year are Walker, Little Joe, Baker,DSF and E Butcher ( EB being last week). Baker, DSF and EB have played limited minutes with only Baker getting more minutes in his past past 4 games.
May is our only debutant this year ( yes I realise he was only eligible to play last week)
Our u20 premiership team that defeated Penrith some years ago included a lot of players that have kept us in good stead, Butcher, Radley, Manu and Marshke and ex rooster Lattrell. Perhaps the same can be said for the Riff.
I think Brandon Smith won’t be the saviour in 2023 unless we have other signings especially forwards and a centre because none of those other debutants from 2021 are being considered especially the forwards who are only getting very very limited minutes of game time. This is concerning to me, especially with TKO departing and lovable fowl mouths likely retirement in 2023.
As it stands, our player development into 1st grade is somewhat at standstill, Walker and Little Joe the exceptions, both debuting in 2021.

could the timing indicate the effectiveness of the job that POS was employed to do?…he scouted talent bloody well.
I don’t see that much over the last couple of years that I’m excited about.
He left in 2017, so the fruits of his replacements work would be evident now.

        The question is…..who replaced POS?

I can’t recall but I’m sure there has been more than 2. I think Aubo has something to do with development but not sure if it’s linked to finding talent. My gripe is we have athletic mobile forwards who aren’t getting a look in and if we have major forward signings for next season , those so called development players will continue not being considered, interestingly those are mostly Islanders or Kiwis that have the athleticism and fear factor which our forwards currently lack collectively.

May seems to have hurdled past a few of the so called next generation of forwards that we have waiting in the wings. Time for some of these boys to start demanding selection and producing when given the opportunity.

It seems that way Johnny. I find it really annoying when Robbo only has a up and comer playing limited minutes and those minutes often when the result is a foregone conclusion. Last week with Mays debut was in the second half. I mentioned to a pal prior half time was the time to introduce him by replacing Collins whilst leaving JWH on. If that was the case then likely the riff would have been ahead by 12 not 18.

For donkey years teams seem to lift and always always score against us when he and Taki come off ...like 2013 GF when he and Moa came off my son and I agreed that Manly would score points and they did.

If POS is as good as his reputation would have us believe , uncle Nick wouldn't have let him walk.
I heard his modus operandi was to pay more for juniors who had already caught the eye..............plus he was a bit tainted by the storm salary cap drama.

Walker and Suaalii are both after his time, and are worth being excited about.
As is THT, Whyte and a couple of others.

We seem to be pretty strong in Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Flegg at the moment. Norths are doing OK too.

I don't quite know why we've struggled beating the Panthers and the Storm the last few years. Robbo is a great coach and which we all know but I wonder why the only time we seem to offload and play off the cuff is when we are chasing a double digit deficit lead.

We try going toe to toe but we either let in a couple of soft tries like on the Saturday or they get the upper hand through attrition. Our game plan has barely changed in 10 years and it is great when you have the best team in the comp.

Robbo is on the back foot when it comes to rule changes as he refuses to milk penalties or allow his players to lay down or the Panthers favorite trick hold the your neck. Liam Martin must have arthritis already the amount of crusher tackles he's been in.

All our young props kill it when they go back and play for the Bears

DSF has been one of their best all year and thought he was hard done by to be dropped last week, Tuku Hau Tapuha is the hardest person to stop close to the line at that level and has bagged multiple tries

May has been the standout however and deserves his spot.
Baker has been solid in NRL this year and will only learn by playing NRL.

Robbo will never drop the likes of Sitili or Angus however so these guys won't get their shot until SOO or injury
