  • Sammy and Sitili

Last night was ugly but I’m not panicking. We were impatient and it’s obvious Souffs handled the build up to the game better than us. We didn’t try and build into the game, we wanted to just blow them away and when that didn’t work there was no-one to pull them back - primarily because our leader was the worst offender. I can’t see that happening again. It’s a long season, we have good players but are rebuilding the team, particularly the leadership structure. In Trent I Trust.

Anyway, to Sam and Sitili. Individually they are defensive liabilities but side by side they’re a nightmare. We need both in the team and Sammy is the future so we need to change it up. He needs a strong defender next to him to talk to him and cover his mistakes. The same that Tonie Carroll did for Lockyer and Gavin Cooper for Thurston. Sitili isn’t that guy. This is where someone like Maubs was so good.
Loved by few, hated by many, respected by all.

Some good and logical points Big Poppa. I’ve thought the same. Sam needs a body guard who can tackle.

Yes your right and other coaches know it too, young fifita is going well and renouf might be an option ,but most of the pack was average to say the least last night ,Sammy vs return will tighten it up a bit but we need a player like carroll to take the pressure off the young fella,i posted last night that robbo might have to make a couple of changes to the pack and i think this will happen. Fitzys departure hasn't helped wonder who the forward coach is now?

I don’t think Sam V will make too much difference at all.

Will be the same 17 next week. 4 weeks in a row!

walker does some good things in defence but a couple of times last night he got off the line too quickly and got isolated. he did the same thing in the semi v titans last year. he's a smart footballer and he'll fix that.
sitili had a bad couple of reads but to be fair murray and walker aren't easy to shut down.

I mentioned this on another thread last night. I'm glad so many of us are noticing this, and hopefully Robbo fixes it by next week. Sitili and Walker shouldn't be next to each orher in defence. I reckon get one of the Butcher bros to defend next to Sammy Walker.

It doesn't help that Walker rushed out of the line so it's definitely not all Sitili's fault, but Sitili was ball watching. When the ball went past him, he planted his feet and all he could do then was to dive at the attacker he was expected to tackle. That can normally be fixed in training (note, it hasn't been in 5 or 6 seasons now) but until it is, we will leak tries either side of him. I know Crichton hasn't been setting the world alight but I feel Walker would be more secure with Momirovski and Crichton either side of him, so that would be a change I would like to see. I am also of the view that Fletcher Baker could benefit from some more game time. It must be hard to keep on getting better if you're only getting 15 or 20 minutes each week. It might be that he gets a few runs with Norths while Suluka-Fifita (or Hau Tapuha) gets a chance off the bench.
