  • Soft Halves - New Thing?

E.g. Benji in 2010 qualifying final against us. Sutton on Monday against us.

I think it's pretty inexcusable for your main playmaker to go off the field when the game is still in the balance yet I've seen it way too many times lately across a number of 6s and 7s in the NRL. Unless they are in Disneyland or physically cannot walk they need to stay out there.

Johns, Fittler, Lockyer all played through chronic groin, knee, shoulder injuries, broken jaws, collapsed lungs, countless concussions. Needled up, self medicated and stayed out there no matter what. I guess that's why they're all-time greats?

Thank god sutton went off, to be fair he was carving us a new a hole. Injuries are injuries, some you can play through and some you can't.

I know he's not a half but I was surprised when Paul Gallen left the field during our clash with Cronulla last year. It was the Saturday night game where we came from behind to beat them. I remember being very jet lagged and thinking I had more energy than him! And yet he still manages to win every award going, including international ones. The likes of Fitzy and Hindmarsh don't leave the field to have a rest, especially in tight games.

Sutton going off was very important because it resulted in Talanoa going to fullback who was badly out of position on the last play.

Spot on fitzy. Very noticeable he was 5 metres behind, and chasing the play.

Benji Marshall is soft? Fark me mate. I wish we had a soft 5/8 then. IMO Benji is by far the best player in the game today.

Exactly. It is very hard to know what kinds of injuries guys are playing with, the level of pain they are going through and whether or not this is going to stop them from continuing. I reckon if you are good enough to play NRL then it is pretty hard to be soft.

Seriously Slutton couldn't walk. Had cramps in both legs. How could any player compete when he can't walk???

I'm no fan of the bloke but to call any 1st grader soft is, well, soft.

                        Agree.
What year (78?) was the Manly/Cronulla Grand Final? Extra time & players everywhere dropping with cramp.
These guys played their guts out and just could not walk.
