With SST confirmed going to France in 2023, and from all reports the Bulldogs under some cap pressure, wouldn’t Luke Thompson be an ideal replacement, but not at the 850k he’s on at the moment. If we can get him at 450-500 with the Dogs chipping in the balance would be a good signing.

His contract is for another 2 years, one more after SST leaves..
Not worth it and we would have him for 1 year subsidised and be negotiating again for a new contract for 600K?
Hold out for Haas........

Thompson is a very good player with real agility for a middle forward and in a good system would go a lot better than what we have seen with a struggling dogs team.
The two negatives are a hefty price tag and he has a poor record at the judiciary and we have enough players in dangerous territory with Radley, Gus and jwh.

As good as Baker is, he doesn't have that aggressive/in your face style compared to those three above. I've seen too many times this season when Baker runs, he has been getting bent backwards and put on his arse very easily. We need big, strong, agile and aggressive props to compete with the best packs in the comp. No doubt in a few years we will have some young guns coming thru but till then, I'd take those three (above mentioned) or even the dream acquisition of Haas any day in favour !
Thompson = His asking price is too high and issues with playing discipline. If he wants to play for $550-600k max per season with the chance of wining a comp or comps then sure come on over but if you're asking for $800K or more ... ha you're dreaming, mate !Last edited by DP1990; 12-07-2021, 02:07 PM.

Butcher is similar frame but has the better effective defence - cleans up the ruck well and also offers the versatility. Baker has average defence at around 86% tackle efficiency for the season.
Tuku is one to watch like you have mentioned has size about him, offloading and looks great at making PCM. Atoni is another one for me who I’m keen to see go he runs it hard and then also keeps the legs driving which is what you need.

We've never spent big money on recruiting a middle under Robinson and I don't think we are about to start now unless it was a once in a generation type player.
Remember Taukeiaho was an unwanted reserve grader... more likely we will recruit another than go out and spend big.
