    What did you expect, with the players we had out. SKD Moga & Anasta. We had a make shift backline at best.

      Burgess was by far the best on the field.Jake was a clear second though.
      Apart from Jake, Maubs was a standout for us

        I agree Burgess was easily best on field followed by Jake.

        Best part is Burgess is in my fantasy league team, as is Friend, Cordner, along with try scorers Tasi, JWH and Mini

        Great day to be a Rooster!!!

          I thought FPN was our best forward, straighened up the attack a lot, made good metres on all his runs and some really good offloads. Justin Carney was one of our better players too; great metres on every run and didn't make any errors. Two players who wont get any credit on here because of their reputations.

          Morts was solid in defence, Pearce kicked really well and Friend tackled his heart out... hard to be critical of these 3 when when they had to play behind a forward pack that was so well beaten. Maybe now people will start to realise how critical Myles & Ryless 100m+ every game are.

            You think? I thought his attacking kicks were nothing short of abyssmal. His first couple were good. He did a few decent deep kicks, one late in the second half to the left corner in particular, but yeah all he did was bomb with terrible accuracy that didn't give the chasers a chance. Ryles we will miss for the first half of the season. I think I'll reserve my judgement on Myles until Kennedy is fully fit again. Nate had very low metres per run last year and I think that's more important than just how many times they took it up. I'll take quality over quantity thank you. And to not into account the way he helped destroy last season with his off the field dickheadery would be a bit ignorant.

              His short kicking game has always been average, it's his long kicks to the corners that I thought were impressive.

              Myles average metres per run are down because he always takes the hard runs. You never see him taking hitups one off the kick off or one off a tap from a penalty. Always puts his hand up for the hard runs.

              The few games (6 games) where he did play at prop for us (allowing him to get those easy metres off the taps and off the kicks offs his averages were;

              15.7 runs for 131 metres (8.4 metres per run) with only 1 error in those 6 games. Also averaging 40 tackles a game.

              Compare that to our starting props tonight;

              JWH
              11 runs for 95 metres (8.6m per run)

              Tasi
              9 runs for 79 metres (8.7m per run)

              1 game isn't a great sample size but from the numbers last year are very similar.

              Kennedy - 106m per game @ 9.2 metres per run
              JWH - 79m per game @ 7.8 metres per run
              Tasi - 78m per game @ 7.4 metres per run

              Given that they're no where near as fatigued as Myles due to not play as many minutes and making as many tackles I'd say his metres per run are fine. Quantity is what we need, there's no shortage of quality players who can run hard in our team at the moment.

              Really hoping Kennedy can be that guy.

                I agree with it in principal actually because pretty well 100% of the time the MOM is from the winning team when so often 1 guy has killed it all match but his team loses, so he gets nothing. In principal I like the idea of MOM being open to the best player of the night regardless of his team.

                That said, Boyd Cordner played a ripper (so did JWH!! Who as many know I'm not usually a fan of...) Minichiello was also awesome in defence... no seriously, he was amazing! Ultimately the trio won us the last 5 minutes but also kept us in touch the whole way through, which we didn't deserve. I think we should be happy with the win alone

                BTW my NRL Dream Team got over 800 points in the first round (higher than I've ever gotten.) They're just awarding more points this season ay? (I'm not in line for a round victory... winner probably got 1000+) Although I did fit Gallen, Carney, Parker, Campese, Marshall, C Smith, Norman, Reynolds and Burgess under my cap without any real chumps in my lineup (everybody got 30+ points) which I'm proud of.

                  Didn't the commentators sound depressed when Easts got up?

                    Looks like your fellow Roosters have spoken. I think Jake was a little lucky. 50 odd tackles can get you 2 points!

                      They were depressed. All but one had tipped Souths and, like everyone, could not believe the Roosters would have such an unlikely last 3 minutes.

                        The fact that Moga and SKD were out probably worked in our favour. It meant we had a strong defensive centre (Aubusson) marking up on the Taylor/Inglis combination. Aubusson had a great game. His stats won't indicate how valuable his defensive performance was for the team

                          Close to 50 tackles and best forward other than Burgess on the field. If some of his forward partners had as much heart as him they would all be world beaters.

                            Yes I agree friendy worked he's ass off in defence and Boyd Was also really good in defence I think he hits really hard and around the legs to nice technique and made some nice runs down that edge.. Burgess deserved the 3 but friend And Cordner I think should have got the 2 and 1
