But it's ok, because you'll be happy to clear cap space. lol.

We have a bunch of promising kids being developed and coming though from the academy program, but you are still stuck in the transit lounge days of buy, buy, buy, that produced nothing. As I've said to you previously, you have everything completely the wrong way around. But I know you can't see that. Whatever you say about players and who to sign and who to ditch, it's the exact opposite that is always the better option.
The opposite thing worked a treat for George Costanza.

A transit lounge signing is a player that nobody else wants near the end of their career that is no longer any good. Payne Haas is 25 years old, current Origin star, an Australian international and the best prop forward in the world right now, why not take him if he's willing to come? Who do we have coming through our academy that could potentially be as much of a success if not more than him?

      • The butt hurt of other supporters and some commentators is worth the $1.1M.

It would be a great signing but we would have to lose one of our senior players.

        • Of course we are in the market for the best forward in the game. You don’t need inside info to know this. It’s pretty obvious.

But mate, you just don't get it. Paying top dollar for established players is an admission that your development programs are not working. That's what we did for years. Didn't have development pathways. It's hard in Woollahra where I used to live, because what kids there even are don't play league.

We have the Va'a brothers coming through, we have Naufahu Whyte going gangbusters, we bought Spencer who is an origin player, we have Lindsay, but fundamentally we are investing in pathway programs and going down the smart path of investing in youth.

It's like buying shares, although you would have none - Payne Haas' next contract will be the highest priced one he ever signs. And it will all be based on previous achievements, of which there are many. I don't doubt that he's an incredible player. Unlike Cherry Evans who no longer is, and never really was. But he went well in one club game last night, so he's the main man again...what a joke

$1million is better spend on 3 or 4 up and comers.

Not 37 year olds and high priced big name forwards with nothing left to prove

              It's not supercoach mate.

                  • Really enjoy Payne haas as a player but won’t happen

Rather we keep and develop our bunch of props that splurge it on a bloke who would take up the salary of three props

Lots of personal insults and wealth bragging but not much sense being made, where to begin?

                      - DCE doesn't fit the transit lounge moniker as he's still playing at a high level, he was the second best half on field the other night and probably the best out of the QLD spine since Munster and Grant were terrible.

                      - Sometimes your development programs don't bring necessary players. Apparently the Roosters are using the Barcelona method, do you know Barcelona paid over 50 million Euros for a player last season? Presumably because they didn't have a player in their system that could reach the heights of the player they signed. Successful sporting teams take both the junior developmental programs AND recruitment from other teams seriously. There are very few major teams in any sport that are just recruiting from their juniors and juniors alone.

                      - Va'a Brothers and Whyte wouldn't be the players going IF Haas was to be pursued. It'd most likely be Lindsay Collins making way along with another lesser first grader. For me losing Lindsay and someone like Sandon Smith or Egan Butcher to get Payne Haas is a very good trade off, that's if we don't have suitable cap space already planned to pursue him, we've lost a lot of players in the past year.

                      - You have no evidence that Payne Haas will stop becoming a motivated and good player at age 26, you also are factually incorrect about DCE never being a good player, his accolades prove you otherwise.

                      ---

At the end of the day I don't think the club is looking to sign Haas anyway, Whyte, Nat Butcher, Leniu and Collins are a good enough prop rotation to win a comp but some of the shit you're dribbling is absolutely ridiculous.

I’m not sure that a prop rotation that includes both Collins and Butcher can get us a comp. Lindsay hasn’t been all that effective since his ACL and whilst Nat is a stout defender, he’s not really a line-bender. Both generally get dominated by opposing packs. I’d take Haas over both Lindsay and Nat if I could.

                            • I don't think it's worth the money.

Don't get me wrong I think he's elevated his game this year and he's the best prop in the game.

But we're not a team who's struggling for yardage and we're not a team who's struggling to create something outside of our structure. He doesn't fix any of our problems so I don't think it's worth the risk of spending $1m+ on a power running prop when we've already got Whyte, Leniu, Va'a *2, Lavakeiaho, Magele & Seve *2 in our system.

I just back Robinson to get it right with that much talent at his disposal and by the time he's actually available (18months away) I think we will have already developed some of this talent.

Agree, we've already got Va'a's and Losalu who can't get a game, and our power game looks good. We have ample front row stocks, and don't think this one would be necessary. I'd rather a more balanced roster of forwards, honestly.

Maybe controversially, I am concerned about Collins being signed on until the end of 2028 (wouldn't be cheap, either). With how we're going defensively, I'm pretty suss as to whether he's actually in our best 17 going forward.
