Honestly I would prefer Manu to go to another club, set himself up on to money. We concentrate on the up and coming players.

I would prefer the money went to Brandon Smith, he would complete our team!

At the end of the day the club is in the best place to know and I will support what ever they do, just my opinion from an armchair fan.

    Go the Chooks
Wash your mouth with soap young man, this is called planning for the future. After what we went through in the last 2 seasons, this ensures we have a top quality spine player if ( God forbid) we lose Keary or Teddy for the season or long term injury.
This is definitely the good news I’ve been needing after a somewhat indifferent week for me personally, and my spirits have definitely lifted considerably.

We can have Brandon Smith and Manu...there's enough money.
According to today's paper Smith will be calling in to see the Roosters on his drive back to Melbourne.
We can't offer the very big money, but can offer Trent and our system.

I would prefer we keep him, release Ikuvalu to cover his pay increase, and be willing to give a dirt cheap youngster a go on the wing (the spot Iku would normally fill) if needed.

That seems like the business plan moving forward.

Manu has been a Rooster since 14 years old an you want to discard him like Souths did to Adam Reynolds! Mate.. . .....????
            can't be serious

We ain't that club we the Roosters having Trent an Nick leading the way !

            No rubbish talk please!!!
I would love nothing more than to win the next 3 premierships with Manu!
I would love to keep him at center.
I hear this stuff every time one of our top players come off contract.
We built Manu into the player he is today, same at RTS, Mitchell and many other players.
We have to abide by the salary cap just like the other clubs.
I don't want to discard him, the fact is he can get 1 mil plus at other clubs, we are not in a position to offer him that, do not go putting words in my mouth.
This is my opinion and you can have yours.
Like I have said the club knows what they are doing and what ever they come up with is good by me, just making conversation.

Iku would have been on Peanuts, He left because he could get better money elsewhere.

Yep. He just played a full season of NRL on a Bears style contract.

FWIW I think 3 players can get the 'minimum wage' of ~$70k. Somebody tried blasting me earlier for saying your average NRL player doesn't earn THAT much money. It's true though IMO... Denan Kemp played your average number of NRL games (43 over 4 years). I'd say that the 'average' players gets ~$250k or less over 4-5 years. Even if you were able to save the entire amount (with no tax), you'd struggle to buy a house in Sydney on that... let alone in the eastern suburbs (where heaps of complete randoms would earn upwards of $250k a year over a 30-40 year career, with zero public profile, zero physical pain from having to tackle Taumalolo & zero chance of life threatening injuries on a daily basis). You're hardly set for life just because you've played NRL (whereas there's 3rd division Euro soccer players and stuff you've never heard of who'd be on millions). IMO to set yourself up post-NRL, you want at least a few years earning $300-500k if possible. That or you'll be looking for a ~15 year career with time in England and stuff. Iku HAD to take the money and it's well deserved!!! All for it + him playing regular 1st grade.

The question is whether you can get a similar attacking output from him as you would say a 750k fullback.

                    Using last years numbers as an example and who you could probably get for that kind of money right now;

                    - Ryan Papenhuyzen 15 games - 14 tries - 5 try assists - 8 try contributions (23 total try involvements)
                    - Valentine Holmes 20 games - 4 tries - 12 try assists - 2 try contributions (18 total try involvements)
                    - AJ Brimson 18 games - 7 tries - 9 try assists - 1 try contribution (17 total try involvements)
                    - Will Kennedy 24 games - 14 tries - 16 try assists - 4 try contributions (34 total try involvements)
                    - Nico Hynes 24 games - 7 tries - 24 try assists - 7 try contributions (39 total try involvements)

                    Compared to Joey Manu;

                    Joey Manu 23 games - 10 tries - 5 try assists - 8 try contributions (23 total try involvements)

                    Compared to all other outside backs who also played fullback last year Joey Many ranked 10th for total try involvements;

                    1. Tom Trbojevic - 62
                    2. James Tedesco - 42
                    3. Nico Hynes - 39
                    4. Clint Gutherson - 38
                    5. Will Kennedy - 34
                    6. Latrell Mitchell - 29
                    7. Rebuen Garrick - 28
                    8. Kalyn Ponga - 25
                    9. Matt Dufty - 24
                    10. Joey Manu - 23
                    10. Ryan Papenhuyzen - 23
                    12. Reece Walsh - 23
                    13. Stephen Crichton - 19
                    14. Valentine Holmes - 18
                    15. Tesi Niu - 18

I think given the way the game is currently being officiated and ruled upon there's a lot of potential for Manu to improve on those numbers. I think last year was the biggest leap in terms of development we have seen from Manu since 2018. If rumours are true and he's on 750-800k and contributing 25+ try involvements a season then we are getting a good return on our money in my opinion. There's not many clubs that will be able to convince a player of that kind of quality and proven output to play in a position outside of the spine so I see it as a huge advantage rather than a disadvantage.

I thought he might of been leaving especially after signing Momorovski & also hearing Naiqama's was coming but Im more than happy he has re-signed.

                      Teddy 2 Premierships
                      Toups 3 Premierships
                      Momorovski 1 Premiership
                      Manu 2 Premierships
                      Keary 3 Premierships

5 Premiership winning players with 11 Premierships between them, not bad.

This is still not confirmed by the club. If anything we all heard it was not correct from Joeys mouth! Did any journo actually call Joey to confirm this?
                        Wonder what is happening?

I think the NRL has to sign off on any new contracts so maybe the club has lodged it, but awaiting the NRL to approve, hence no confirmation from the club on Joey, Angus or even Kevin Naiqama if we have signed him....

I would be more concerned if there were stories doing the rounds about him talking to other clubs, but it's been very quiet on the Manu front for a while now. That suggests to me that they are just nailing down the finer details of his new deal with us

Joey Manu is expected to recommit to the Sydney Roosters for a further two years with the New Zealand Warriors confirming their pursuit never progressed beyond a "general chat".

The Warriors confirmed on Thursday they had signed Marata Niukore on a four-year deal from 2023, but chief executive Cameron George said Manu would not be following suit.

Manu and the Warriors were first linked together at the start of the year, especially because of his Kiwi heritage – not to mention the club's big coffers – but George said the centre had made it clear Bondi was where his heart was.

"Joey won't be leaving the Roosters, he'll stay there, and he's definitely not coming to us," George told the Herald.

"Any time someone like Joey becomes available, and given his Kiwi connection, we expressed an interest and spoke with him.

"We saw him as a great asset to our club on and off the field – he's an exceptional talent and an exceptional person. That was the big attraction for us.

"But we never got any further than a general chat.

"He has that strong connection with the Roosters, he said he was happy where he is, and that's exciting for the Roosters and exciting for him.

Yep...read all that, but as Joey states, he hasn't signed anything and the news don't know more than he does. I'm sure there is nothing wrong but process is slow I guess!
