  • Cyril Says...Episode II ...Has Robbo lost his Mojo?

In 2018 and 2019 Easts won the comp

In 2020 and 2021 East caaaame back to the field..Big time.....people will trot out injuries and retirements as excuses...but all teams experience these things

an analysis of the past two seasons reveals that Easts no longer beat the top sides

    2020
2 losses to Souths,2 losses to Melbourne,2 losses to Canberra,2 losses to Penrith and a loss to Manly

    2021
2 Losses to Souths,2 losses to Melbourne,A loss to Parra,a loss to Brisbane(what!!),2 losses to Penrith and a loss to Manly

while Fumbles Ikuvalu was a factor in many of the losses, the fact remains that Easts are no longer beating the top teams

the reason....poor attention to detail...(just look at the Easts website...out of date team information)
    poor discipline...Radley...suspensions and sin bins
failure to change tactics.....Easts have great jumpers in Tupou and JS...but never use them for short kickoffs
    loss of Latrell

while Jason Ryles will bring some new ideas....Robbo should remember that Chairman Nick does not tolerate mediocrity(Just ask Brian Smith and Freddy)
the loss of over a thousand games worth of senior player experience will impact in 2022...who has replaced Isaac Liu?

Hear what you’re saying but think you’re being pretty harsh.

For starters, you can’t discount the extent of injuries we had this year. Rads was the NRLs example of the tough new rules that seemingly fall away as the rounds continued.

The way our admin keeps the website updated is pretty irrelevant, I doubt that level of administration is leeching its way into the coaching. This year was disappointing but to be fair an amazing achievement to finish so high on the ladder.

Lui will be a big loss, but I think we could see Egan take on the mantle or depending on the game even Connor and Rads interchanging.

Don’t discount the experience that is set to come back, Keary is a major one. Watch the first three rounds of the season and watch how much extra space he gives Teddy to do his thing. Collins will add some punch through the middle, Walker will have another off season under his belt and Verrills I think will hit his straps next year. Retuning from an ACL and the detached retina really disrupted his season.

I also think unlocking Manu on wing with a roving role will be deadly with Walker, Teddy, and Keary causing havoc in the plays.

We need to evolve our tactics to better suit the game but I’ve got absolute confidence in Robbo. We’ll come back with a vengeance next year!

We've had to deal with disruptive injuries for the past 2 years and haven't had our best squad play week in week out since 2018. Robbo has had to make due with the tools he had and has done pretty well considering the circumstances, bleed through a bunch of young talent which will take over from the JWH, Liu, Friend, Cordner and Morris boys very soon.

These past 2 years would have provided Robbo alot of lessons on how the game is being played now with 6 again's and all the rule changes since, and he'll have a gameplan come round 1.

Blaming a player who wasn't a consistent starter until injuries hit isn't the best analysis.. and short kick offs will not fix any of the issues you've outlined.

You are accused of treason and anti-Soviet behaviour. The court finds you guilty and sentences you to be shot !

To mention Robbo in the same sentence as Smith & Fitler show you have NFI

I agree. I think our website and never doing a short kick off has resulted in the majority of our losses.

We went one a piece with Souths in 2020.....I didn't read any of the post other than the stat section and you got the very first stat wrong, not good Cyril.

Exactly. If not for “Fumbles Robinson” we’d be chasing our fifth straight premiership in 2022. His name should be erased from our history.

Whilst this post is a touch harsh the game has changed I am keen to see if our game changes this year with a healthy squad. I would never say there is pressure on Robinson but I think it will be interesting to see if he changes from the high risk terrible completions.

Whoever says we can’t adapt to these new rules are kidding themselves. We need to have our key boys on the park all season.. did you watch Penrith when Cleary wasn’t there? Luai turned into mud. Deadset. Then last season (2020 ) after the huge COVID break we were flying playing some of the best attacking footy I’ve seen us play in ages and the new rules allowed us to. So I think the rules aren’t a that big of a issue that some are making out.

Loss of experience through injury and transfer can dampen our hopes next season but I can bet you anything right about now we would be in the midst of organising and dealing with signings and retentions.

Give it a few more weeks and we should start seeing some flow in the player activity market.

FYI Robbo was a shave off dally M coach this season? And in many peoples opinion he should of taken it out so complete troll nonsense here

We would be going for 5 in a row if Robbo had brought in the short kick off over the last two years
