  • How does Teddy stay the best with Pap and Trbo around?

Open discussion... how come Teddy's still the best when Pap and Trbo seem to keep kicking @rse? What does he provide that they don't?

  • #2
Consistency is what he has over both, much bigger sample size of elite form... I have seen fullbacks play as good and sometime slightly better than Teddy over the years... for a few weeks, maybe even a season.. but Teddy is just elite year in and year out... it’s quite the feat.

Teddy's experience in big games against quality opposition is where it counts at the moment, along with consistency.

Aside from that, skill wise I think he's under a considerable amount of pressure at the moment. Turbo is doing things that no one else can (albeit unproven against sides in good form).

On the other hand, what do they offer that Teddy doesn't Leadership is one aspect of his game that they don't offer, and consistency, even in a losing team he sets the standard.

Tedesco plays to his strengths most times although he does overplay his hand sometimes and get's a bit muddled up overthinking the play. It will be interesting how it goes next year if say Keary and Walker are playing as all three will demand the ball so they need to work this out in pre-season

Having Keary back will help. Taking on less responsibility on the field will also help.

                Great players come and go.
We had Mini all that time and he was one of the best fullbacks in the 45 years I been watching footy.
Same with Teddy, he has been the form fallback for several seasons. Pap is having a great season and Turbo is in his own class this year. Those 2 may overtake Teddy but to do so they need to preform for 5+ years like Teddy has.
Hayne had 1 great season carrying Parra but he couldn't continue with that form.

Even if they do I'm happy with Teddy, performed consistently for several years and is a great leader.

Teddy is a leader with an all round game.

Pap is just an explosive player at this stage of his career.

Turbo is the only challenger to Teddy but Ted atm has more runs on the board for a longer period

Because he is more consistent than anyone else.

Like with all players the time comes when the next top player in a certain position comes along who is younger & takes over.
No one is as good as Slater at FB, he changed the position of fullback & was a champion until he retired at 33 was it?
Teddy still has to fire & be ahead of Tom for at least another 3 years to be able to match Slater IMO. Teddy has been Slater quality for the last 3 & half years.

He only seems to overplay his hand when he feels the halves aren't creating enough. It was never an issue in 2018 and 19 and has only crept in to his game since we lost Cronk in 2020 and then Keary at the start of 2021. He will be fine with Keary and Walker as he will be able to concentrate on his own game more instead of trying to play the role of fullback, 5/8th and half

I'll say it if no one else will, Teddy is a great fullback and up there with the best , maybe ever .But to be honest Paps has been unreal the past couple of years and without that injury causing a quite spell I think he has taken the mantle . Turbo not far behind and Teddy just behind him , But still wouldn't swap either of them for Teddy

Teddy just needs an injury free partnership with Keary and Rads.

Across rnd 1 & 2, Keary had 6 Try assists, 2 LBs and 3 LBAs. And Teddy had 5 trys.

Both are freaks and if they and Rads can play 20 games together then Teddy will remind everyone why he's the best in the game in 2022.
