  • Who are the Rooster young guns you rate?

I wanted to start a thread on the up and coming players you think could someday play a part in the Roosters 1st grade team.

I'm sure a lot on here watch, Norths, Flegg and Harold Matthews.

The key to winning a comp under a salary cap is to promoted from within so you find value before you need to upgrade their contract.

Would be great to get opinions on the following and anyone else you rate highly.
    • Ben Thomas
    • Naufahu Whyte
    • Tuku Hau Tapuha
    • Max Bailey
    • Moala Graham-Taufa
    • Lani Graham-Taufa
    • Ronald Volkman

I think Baker and EButch will be guns in future. Representatives written all over them.
Looking forward to seeing how JS and VK develop next year.
I have been disappointed in DSF's progress.

Thomas - Plays well in reggies with limited game time in the NRL - Up to him to press his claim for a full time contract - issue is lack of footy in putting his case forward
Whyte - Looks okay in what i have seen in Reggies but needs to be involved more when on the field - be interested in how he goes tomorrow night - hopefully he gets on the field
Hau Tapuha - A big unit with potential - will need to improve his mobility and agility though to play the required longer minutes in NRL
Bailey - Most likely will stay a Reggies player -Plays okay at that Level but others are in front of him for a full time contract.
Graham-Taufa Twins - suffering from lack of footy but both show potential just need consistent footy
The Volkster - Most likely from the Group to play regular NRL in the future - not sure if it will be at the Chooks though

The chances of Ben Thomas, Naufahu Whyte, Tuku Hau Tapuha, Max Bailey, Moala Graham-Taufa, Lani Graham-Taufa & Ronald Volkman all becoming top line first graders at the Chooks is slim in my opinion. To get 3 would be a mighty good achievement.

Did this thread have any relation to the news that Souths have resigned 5 of their own highly rated juniors today? I was thinking similar about us once I finished reading the news.. I feel as we are putting in the blocks for another dominant run - Walker, JS, Volkman ( who for some reason people on here are starting to doubt the kid’s future here ) The Fijian Bloke ( I forget his name lol my bad ), Tuku and Whyte. Then we have the core group now - Rads, Verrilis, Sitili, Butcher who are all gaining great development at this stage of their careers.

With a sprinkle of some depth signings and perhaps a few key ones we should be sweet.. but it is one area we must stay on top of as our rivals have big junior bases and obviously it’s well known about how small our area is and the disadvantage we are at there.

Penrith up there with the juniors ( Biggest catchment area and go out bush/regional areas for scouting ), but souths have been snatching some good ones lately- Tallis Duncan comes to mind?? Boy are they chirpy about him they are very keen on the kid. Parramatta have the talent pool too but tend to let the finer ones slip through their grasps as do the Bronx.

Melbourne are criminally underrated with their scouting too I think Oates was their first “ Marquee “ signing since Crocker back in 2005-2006…

With Keary signed to 2024 the Volkster may not want to wait that long? - He has a Rugby Background too - Like a lot of the youngsters they need consistent footy which they can't get - Not sure if Gus Gould's summer comp will get up to give them some game time but COVID could still be an issue

You never know as quite a number of the NYC 2016 winning side became top liners at the Chooks and Elsewhere - Radley/Manu/Sitili/N Butcher/ Faamausili/Momirovski- Benny Thomas/ Benny Marschke and Lachlan Lam played a few games promoted from SG Ball that year
