“Roosters push refs to limit”

yeah, but there's a diff between penalising it and sin binning a player for it. when refs send a player to the bin they usually tell him why he's been sent to the bin - e.g. 'i warned you - repeated infringement'. when sutton sent jwh to the bin he said 'you deliberately stayed there cos it was six more' which of itself is worth a penalty but not a sin binnning.Originally posted by King Salvo View Post
Clubs were advised i understand that they would be cracking down on teams giving away penalties on the 0 of the set restart.
One would have to look at all games to see if the penalties were justified though to be able to ascertain if any bias or perceived bias exists including if it's all Refs , Certain Refs , Certain teams and Certain Grounds etc.
Home Ground Crowds are known to sometimes influence the Ref 's decision making - boos and get em on side ref etc
robbo's just come out and said he didn't have a problem with the binning which is a slight tweaking from sat when he said 'if that's the standard then everybody should be sin binned for it and they're not'.

Latest Robbo presser he has a go at Annesley. Robbo makes it clear that JWH should have been a sin bin, but so should have the later one where panthers gave away two intentional penalties to slow us down, and then laying all over the Teddy. Says Annesley was righteous about JWH but reluctant to talk about that Panthers one.
Just after 8 minute mark:

mmm Chook were Minor Premiers those years though so penalty counts one can say were not relevant to wins and losses and place on the ladder- It wasn't penalty counts that cost Chook a place in the GF both those yearsOriginally posted by 007 View PostIt's actually 42 rounds if you include finals. Sensible one though but not popular with the conspiracy theorists i would say.Originally posted by Rooster1908 View PostNot a popular opinion I bet but I do reckon we push them the far .I don't agree with the JWH send off but we seem to continually push to far. Then we get six against against us and wonder why .Bit like a kid that continually nags you and wonders why they get a clip around the ears .
Penalty counts have been irrelevant to wins and losses and place on the ladder though as apart from 2016 Chook has been top 4 and Minor Premiers on 4 occasions , Premiers 3 times , Eliminated prelim finalists 3 times and Eliminated week 2 of finals once.

All teams push the envelope. We are just under more scrutiny than our opponents on the day.Originally posted by Rooster1908 View PostNot a popular opinion I bet but I do reckon we push them the far .I don't agree with the JWH send off but we seem to continually push to far. That could be true because of our success which of course isn't fair but that doesn't change the fact that we must change our approach and stop giving the ref so many opportunities to penalize us . What we are doing now isn't working .We need a different planOriginally posted by Big Dog View Post

I mean, the count in the 2014 Souths game was 10-5 to Souths, and we were well on top when they got an influx of them...Originally posted by King Salvo View Post

You're saying that penalty counts aren't an indicator for success, which isn't the argument anyway. The argument is whether the Roosters have a significant penalty differential disparity over the last decade or so, and what the cause is of that. Our success as a club during that time is irrelevant to the discussion, and is a form of moving the goalposts.
Strange that our best penalty differential was in 2016. I guess that year we just decided not to give away deliberate penalties or something.
Another fact is that this has been basically consistent since 2000 or so. Over two decades of it. It deserves significant thought put into it.

Robbo agrees with you that JWH should have been binned. But he also pointed out that the referee failed to bin a Penrith player for a worse indiscretion later in the game. Where arguing here about who gets hit with the clipboard.Originally posted by Rooster1908 View PostNot a popular opinion I bet but I do reckon we push them the far .I don't agree with the JWH send off but we seem to continually push to far.
