    100%.
Burton is a champion he might not win a comp at the Dogs but he will still play rep footy. I would love to see the Roosters get him he has years of the best footy ahead of him.

Volkman, Suaalii, shit even Manu and beyond that potentially Brad Fittler's son (Zach Fittler) will be a young teen on the rise for us as well so we may be ok in a few years time in regards to 5/8 options.

I know this much, Matt Burton is far superior to that flog Jarome Luai. 3 years younger but already a much more complete footy player and doesn't look like a deer in the highlights without Cleary beside him.

Penrith kept the wrong player there.

I agree. Would love to nab Burton. He is already a top line player. Would only get better at roosters. Hopefully he wants to play in a successful team and sees the light in a couple years that the dogs aren’t going to be successful. Much like Newcastle they are trying to buy a squad and you will find most are simply going for the money. It’s a recipe for disaster I reckon

No thanks at 32yrs of age Luke Keary will be a brilliant halfback. Could see him playing until the end of 2026/27. By that time Walker will be entering his mid 20's and ready to bring through the next young talent.

We've got something really good going right now, don't go messing with it.

Keary might be one or two more head knocks away from going the way of Friend and Cordner though sadly.

Burton would be huge. Would be right at the top of the market by 2024 though.

The Dogs may go from 16th to maybe 10th next year but until they get a top coach they will only ever be hovering outside the top 8.

I usually agree with things you post but I cannot see Keary going beyond next year. One more decent concussion & he is gone. Burton would be the perfect 5/8 for Sam Walker.

That wasn’t the hypothetical question posed by the thread starter though, would I sign Burton knowing Keary comes off contract around the same time Burton comes off contract. No.

Obviously if something were to happen to Keary or Walker and we needed to sign someone it would be an option worth entertaining but not at the expense of either for mine.

Something’s already happened to Keary. Several things actually. Dreaming if you’re thinking he’s going to be around long term. Wise to start planning ahead.

Again not the hypothetical proposed at the beginning of the thread, so not sure why you're coming at me.

I don't know enough about concussions to have an opinion one way of the other. I work with someone who is studying to be a neurologist and was questioning him about Cordner's time off and he said that there's some really positive signs around the theories of neuroplasticity and that Cordner having time off away from the game could work and that there was medical merit in allowing the brain to mend and re-wire itself. Likewise the year off for Keary could be a blessing in disguise.

I think a lot of this is all very much theory based still though so who knows.. clearly you have a strong opinion to tell me I'm dreaming to not have set mindset that he's finished, could you expand on why?

I dunno what hypothetical question you’re responding to. I was responding to your suggestion that Keary might be around for another 5 years. I think it’s unlikely based on the roosters recent history of not taking chances with ageing players with a history of head knocks. I hope you’re right by the way, but realistically I can’t see it. Not sure what else to tell ya.

The Panthers reportedly face losing damaging forward Viliame Kikau amid Penrirth’s salary cap squeeze.
The 26-year-old is off-contract at the end of 2022, which means clubs are free to negotiate with him from November 1.
The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio believe the Panthers will not be in a position to match the multi-million deals rivals will offer him.
“Viliame Kikau, he’ll be a by-product of Penrith’s success over the last two years,” Riccio said on SEN 1170 Breakfast
“What I mean by that is, he’ll be departing the club I’m pretty confident of that.
“I can’t see how Kikau stays, and I think the Penrith Panthers are coming to terms that it will happen.
Riccio revealed the Cowboys are set to join the Dragons in the race for his signature.
“I’m hearing the Cowboys will come very, very hard for Kikau, it’s where he’s originally from,” Riccio said.
“He was prised out of Townsville and brought to Penrith. I’m hearing they’ll make a significant play for him.
“There’s no coincidence with the teams that made a big play for Dale Finucane in the Cowboys, Titans and Dragons, they’ll all be in for play for Viliame Kikau.”

Should I start a thread that the Roosters Roosters are in the hunt for Kikau?
