  • LUSSICK'S BONDI BOUND as JWH replacement for 2013

taken from the SMH this morning

"But wait, there's more. Canterbury and Parramatta have both offered Darcy Lussick about $270,000 a season for his services but the smart money is on the Manly enforcer joining Sonny Bill Williams at - yep, you guessed it - the Roosters in 2013. The Chooks are adamant their first priority is re-signing another former Manly enforcer, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, but The Inside Back understands the New Zealand international prop is causing friction with his heightened asking price for next season. Roosters recruitment officer Peter O'Sullivan conceded the club was interested in Lussick but couldn't afford he and Waerea-Hargreaves. The mail from every direction is Lussick has all but got the nod."

not really surprising that rumours have picked up about JWH leaving to make room for SBW, simply a case of not being able to keep them all, personally I would have tried to ship FPN/Symonds out to try and keep JWH/Cordner.

I can see many supporters being very unhappy if JWH/Cordner leave to accomodate SBW.

I can see many supporters ecstatic if we win a comp with dollar bill.

Not a great bit of gossip to wake up to but something has to give if SBW is on his way, even allowing for increased salary cap.

I like JWH and would love to keep him but I hardly think he's set the world on fire in the 2 years he's been here.
He has great potential but probably won't be worth really big dollars for a few more years.
If he's demanding too much money than he needs to be shown the door!

If lussick is commanding $270k on the market, imagine how much jwh is expecting.

So many players in the comp are overpaid. I don't know how any team stays under the cap.

I'd say we should be securing Cordner before JWH

I can’t see why anyone would want to re sign FPN instead of focusing on the re signing of JWH, we also obviously jump the gun in signing Symonds. Hopefully Mini and Braith's departures will give us enough space to re sign JWH. I am sure with the increase in new cap and the loss of Carney, Myles, Ryles, Conn, Phil Graham, Linnett, and Watts we would have enough space for the signing of SBW and Maloney.

Yet the Broncos got away with Lockyer on their books for 250k a season. The Tigers are spending over half their cap on just 5 players.
I doubt many clubs are genuinely under the cap.Time for us to do some creative accounting as well and keep whom we want...

I have seen Lussick play but to be honest I dont really know much about him. Can anyone mention if this kid is as good as the raps on him?

As for JWH, I have always said he has still to learn to be a footballer. At the moment he is just a hard man playing footy, but with enormous potential. The problem I see with JWH is he is going to be one of those players that will play with 6 or 7 clubs in his career, because money will always override loyalty and chance of premierships. A lot of players would see what the Roosters are trying to achieve over the next 5 years and be happy to be a part of it (like the Broncos of old) as long as they got a decent wage. I would never bag a guy for putting dollars first though. Thats his call and thats just the way I see him. Who knows, maybe thats what he will do and he will sign for less. I hope so.

Spot on Thirteen. Roosters recruitment have a very strong policy of putting a price/value on a player, if a player wants more then that he is shown the door. We have Tasi, Kennedy and Mose on our books, all of whom I rate higher then JWH. We also have a brigade of young front rowers coming through in Evans, Napa, Tago etc etc. I am pretty sure the Roosters see JWH as surplus stock at this stage, especially if he is asking for too much. Our priority HAS to be to nail Cordner down to a long contract. This guy will be a superstar. Ditto Kane Evans. As for Lussik, well I am not sure about this guy, isn't he a second rower? Don't we have enough second rowers? He is tough though and if he does become a rooster we will have one fearsome pack next year.

I'd be annoyed if we lost JWH, but if he is asking for crazy money, then his head will obviously be on the block.

I'd be absolutley livid if we lost either Cordner, Kennedy or Tasi. If someone has to go, I'd rather it be JWH than any of these guys.

I'd think Guerra would also be gone. SBW would take over the wide running game that Guerra currently offers the team.

Agree with all and sundry regarding FPN. He should be the first to go.

With all this crap happening, it wouldn't be a good feeling within the team. Everyone waiting for a tap on the shoulder. It shouldn't be the focus right now.

                        Agree 100%
Focus should be on NOW, not next year!

That's it. If we lose Cordner it's a disgrace.

JWH is a good player but isn't be worth the 400k that has been mentioned in other articles, that said Lussick isn't worth that much either.

All this shit is happening because of the idiotic decision to even think of inviting SBW to this club.

I've heard talk that the Roosters originally wanted Bob Carr to play in the second row but there was a revolt by the players at the club.
