  • Keighran

I’ve seen a few people mention and praise him on this forum, but I wanted to dedicate a thread to him. I wasn’t sold on him when he signed, merely thinking he’d be a back up/reserve grade player, but in the games he’s played for us this year, my word he has been good. He’s filled in a number of spots and for the most part, done his job to a T. Yesterday was probably his biggest test, being put in the centres due to this continued injury toll, but he handled it with class. Defensively solid, was good in the air on bombs, attacking threat/threw a pearler to Toups for a try and he was converting most our tries. Which is something we haven’t had for a long time. With Walker/others who have kicked, you just knew it was likely we weren’t adding 2 points to our 4. With Keighran kicking, there’s confidence 8 times out of 10 he’ll nail it. I hope Trent finds a spot for him in the 17 on a regular basis and if anything, would much prefer him to be our option to close the season out in the backs instead of signing a washed player from another club to fill in.

He just missed two goals at the end because he was gassed. The look in his eyes when he’s kicking remind me of a serial killer.

It's tough kicking at local grounds too (wind's all different).

If somebody other than him had chased the bloody penalty kick (that hit the post) then it woulda been a try of Braith Anasta proportions (I think he the one who hit the posts off the kick-off, bagging us a try?)

Before the last try, Keighran was showing signs of cramps that's probably why Walker took the last kick. Apparently it was 81% humidity before the game..That's bad! You can forgive all players for losing it after a while. They say he is a great kicker and Warren Smith said he has a better kicking style than even Adam Reynolds..ok but I haven't seen it yet and he can shank a few easy kicks BUT I am happy that at least now we get a better chance to convert a try. His defence was good too with a few good tackles. Let's hope that by next week he can improve his stamina against the Riff.

I watched the interview with Keighran when he first signed with us.

He said he played all his junior footy in the centres and only really filled in as a utility when he got first grade.

He looked very comfortable there yesterday.

Maybe not the biggest body to be dominant but he is aggressive, has good footwork and good passing.

And yes, he can kick Goals HALLELUJAH

I feel like technique v performance will always be different.

For example JT's technique is a bit odd but you'd put your money on him to nail a last second, low-percentage kick.

yes correct like Mick Cronin had his toe punt but was very successful and then you started to get the around the corner style like Hazem and Johns. Technique is only as good as long as it’s successful.

You just knew he would do well at a club like Easts. A great signing.

I'm warming to him. He puts in every game. He just might bloom under Mr Robinson.

I was more impressed with his defense last night than anything else.

Kept Matterson, Opacic and Fergo in check really well.

Hutch next to him would of helped as he is one of the best defensive halves in the comp imo.

I’d start him ahead of Copley and Dugan

Good young player, lets just hope he stays healthy!!

This new look, young team needs a good off season to gel. Throw in Keary and Collins and we have a great first grade team.
