RL world cup

Competition announced to be going ahead - apparently all countries have agreed but Australia as clubs are hesitant. Can’t see Australia not fielding a team because of NRL but other countries still having NRL players flying over - this is still all unclear as they work things out.

What are your thoughts on Roosters players going over for the cup? A main issue is that if they go they need to have 8 weeks leave (as part of their RLPA agreement) and also at least two weeks quarantine on top of that - meaning if they make finals in late November, some players may not return to training till February (even more time if they caught the virus which Super League teams still are - and of course their personal health).

If it comes down to clubs choice will the Roosters hold back players? Robbo is very favourable for promoting international rugby league and is part of the French staff (football director).

Teddy (Aus/Italy)
SST (Tonga)
Toops (Tonga)
Angus (Aus)
Sitili (Tonga)
Liu (NZ/Samoa - but he is leaving)
JWH (NZ)
Walker (could play for eng if he wanted but doubt it)
Manu (NZ/cook isl)
Lam (PNG)
Fifita (Tonga)
Radley (Aus squad?)
Suaalii (Samoa)
Ikuvalu (Tonga)
Others?

The game itself & International footy are above the Roosters IMO so I would have no problem with all those guys representing other countries. Thats 14 Internationals playing for the Chooks, pretty good.

The part about making Finals in late November you dont have to worry about because the Chooks are not on the same level as the top 4 teams & wont be playing footy around that time.

I don't see how this can go ahead properly, currently in SL they are cancelling multiple games per week due to players & staff having covid.

Throw in having to verse semi pro athletes in the lower tier teams not in a bubble and it's just asking for the NRL to have issues.

Expect to see ALOT of players withdraw/deny the opportunity to play.

New Zealand and Australia’s governing bodies are now believed to have struck a deal with World Cup organisers which will see the latter cover the costs and logistics surrounding the transport of the players on private charter flights halfway across the world, minimising their contact with the general public in the process. That means the tournament can proceed as planned, with organisers expected to confirm the decision as early as Wednesday.

Starts 23 October 2021 and Finishes 27th November 2021- teams would need to be there at least 10 or so days before it starts especially players from the Southern Hemisphere - Jet lag etc

Although one would assume players individually if not their clubs will decide if they play or not - would still have to quarantine upon arrival back in Australia so you looking at 7 or 8 weeks all up.

I'm with you Norths, I really enjoy and am a fan of international RL.

In terms of it going ahead - I'd like to see it go ahead. Many people will disagree and good on them for doing so, but for me, sports has been a real enjoyable distraction atm. Good antidote against the morbidity.

The Euros, Wimbledon, Rugby (love the Rooster emblem on the Frogs - The French Roosters!), SOO and of course the NRL.

I think they will need to think about it as quite a few would be involved and that will take a bit out of them going into the new season in 2022 - I am sure the club won't stop them if they wish to play- My view would be to stay put have a rest and get ready for pre-season training.

After all they deferred the Olympics and Euro 2020

Nah Im not a Storm lover Im just envious of them & admire how they are always a top 3 side.
Ive told you many times I like all the clubs but the Roosters are the team I follow & love. 3rd generation.

Many of us can admire a good side. Eg, the Pamfers at full strength over the past 2 season have been simply on another level however I won’t come on here, a Roosters forum sprouting my chubby for them.

We arent the same side this year for many reasons but in a one eyed Roosters eyes, we are still the shitzizzle and all the rest can go and get stuffed!
