imo it does, especially considering that 2 of those players are in the 'spine' positions and the other would be one of the best if not the best player in the comp. Combine that with the continued development of Moga, BJ and that young forward pack and that is a premiership winning team.

Personally I'd upgrade and extend most of our current players contracts first, and then chuck what he have left at Beale or Fisiiahi for Mini's spot. If FPN, Mini and Anasta don't have big seasons, they are either gone or shopped around. Stewart and SBW are far too expensive.

Our problem last season wasn't defence... it was that we simply couldn't put points on the board.

It wasn't like 2009 where we were getting cricket scores against us. Most of the time teams only scored a few tries, but we failed to score more than say 1 try (it's the past and I'm too lazy to dig up actual stats but that was my overall feeling of what happened... we definitely had a big slump where we failed to score more than 2 tries a game for more than a month.)

With some guys who are able to make tries out of nowhere on top of last season's solid defence, we could be a chance. Our holes were Carney (off the rails) and no real wingers.

If Pearce could just boot the ball near their goals and get a winger who's HALF decent (Hoppa in Origin did the job) then we'll smash it.

If their names are Ryles, Myles & Carney then yeh we'd go pretty close.

yeah i think we only averaged 12-13 points a game for the majority of the season.

That first team named would be the best team in the comp on paper by the time 2013 came around. The problem is that for the most part this extra salary cap money will simply have an inflatory effect on existing contracts to be extended. Unfortunately, relative to other teams we have a lot of in-demand players coming off contract at the end of the year. This means that this inflatory effect will affect us more than most clubs. You're dreaming if you believe that we will be able to resign nearly all of our young crop of stars while adding the contracts of SBW, Maloney and Coote. Should SBW arrive (and I believe he will) the club would mainly let go of a few of our excess backrowers. The likes of Arona and Guerra would be unlikely to have their contracts renewed as they will most likely increase their market value by the end of the season (not considering any inflatory cap increase effect). We need to pray that Mini and Anasta find decent offers to play overseas. Should JWH's pricetag rise north of 325k he will no doubt be lost, unless he is moved to the backrow and shows significantly more overt value (as a battering ram he is a lot more replaceable). Mose and Cordner need to be re-signed before round 10 imo. These two could be two of the best players in the comp in their respective positions and will be asking around 300k each by the end of the season going on what they've shown in the trials. Hopefully Friend is seen as an 80 minute hooker by the end of the season as I think we could use the bench spot a little better with a running forward. If Friend does need a small break from dummy-half work what I would love to see is Maloney or Pearce put there for 15 mins and RTS to come off the wing to play 6 (I think he'll be playing wing by the end of this season and showed in the trial last weekend that he has excellent ball playing ability, in particular short passing on the left to his backrowers). When Mini leaves the fullback spot will likely be taken up by one of the young guys so long as Uncle Nick has little to do with this decision. One of them will be ready by the end of the season imo.

                            My 2013 team would be:

                            Wells
                            RTS
                            Moga
                            SKD
                            Perrett
                            Maloney
                            Pearce
                            Tasi
                            Friend
                            Kennedy
                            Cordner
                            Aubusson
                            SBW

                            Leilua
                            Masoe
                            Tago/Evans/Takairangi
                            Bosden/FPN

I think that is an extremely well balanced side that has a great blend of experience and youth. A versatile bench, a very fast backline, plenty of offloads and impact, supporting halves both with good kicking games that complement each other, and starting props with big engines.

What would JWH be on, and how many more years does he have to prove himself? Not saying I don't rate him... just wondering.
