Fair enough then if we have stipulated he has to see out his contract.

But meh... guess it doesn't matter how you get there. IMO you'll never become a 1st grade coach by sitting around as an assistant your whole life. Like Peter Costello... you'll go nowhere if you just sit around expecting somebody to hand you the top job on a silver plate. You've gotta have the confidence to step up and seize the opportunity by yourself. In coaching there aren't many opportunities. Knights and Sharks were 2 of the best prospects out there on face value but I dunno! The Drizz and Penrith (plus Easts/Raiders/Souffs) have just been so dominant over the past few years that it's tough aiming for anything higher than 'making the top 8'.

Robbo inherited a lacklustre team that had just signed SBW (who most woulda considered a high-risk prima donna at the time) and Maloney (people will say they knew he was amazing but if you go back and look at comments from the day, literally nobody knew what he was capable of, including Warriors fans). Wasn't as if we'd just signed JT or Cronk. Robbo did extremely well to win that 2013 premiership...
Agreed mate. Bennetts numbers are inflated as a result of coaching a stacked one state team for soo long. Even when the other QLD sides came in, they were still the main state side and had a massive PMA to draw from and for support. As you said, a shyt coach could have reached success with those sides. I believe its those sides that have made Wayne a better coach, not the coach that made them better sides.

Great coaches build a culture within a club built on character and where everyone buys into the common good. Bellamy has been brilliant at it down at the storm and has been illustrated by his replacing of his big three without missing a beat.
Likewise the work Robbo has done in installing the roosters way gives me great pride in having seen our team being a transit lounge to where it's obvious the players love the club.
The strength of our leaders in Cords, Jake, JWH and Aubo has been passed down to the next generation.
We might be down on players through injury but not as a club, we will continue to be a force due to that character that Robbo has built.

I think in due time both Friend and/or Boyd will make excellent coaching staff members, advisors, ambassadors and perhaps assistant or head coach but in the current scheme of things both of them lack that "coaching ability and experience". They're current retired players and both are still very close to the current playing squad so it may not be ideal right now to appoint either of them due to their closeness to the team but as they gain the experience, exposure and pick-up the necessary coaching skills, qualities and develop their own identity/approach then sure, someday down the track that would be great (especially if it's at the Roosters !)

To be honest, I had Cooper Cronk ahead of Boyd and Friend but I think the media gig with Fox League was too enticing plus he's already a specialist halves coach for us at the moment and maybe he didn't want to get involved in a more extensive capacity right now.

Good appointment. Any way of tapping into the Storm's brains trust can only be a good thing. An astute pick up.
              MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Meh. Where was that character tonight? That's the sort of performance that has one wondering if all is well in the dressing room.
