Gold Coast is eyeing out of contract Roosters prop Isaac Liu.

According to The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio, the Titans have tabled a three-year deal for the 30-year-old who comes out of contract at the end of the season.

Liu has played 191 first-grade games since making his debut for the Roosters in 2013.

If Liu joins the Titans, they will have one of the most potent forward packs in the league, which includes David Fifita, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Mo Fotuaika, Kevin Proctor, Jarrod Wallace and Herman Ese’ese.

Liu joined the Roosters from Gold Coast club Keebra Park and had since represented New Zealand and Samoa.

He has also won two premierships at the Roosters and has become one of their most consistent players, making over 15 appearances in each of his eight seasons in the NRL.

So it appears that Liu will be on the move at the end of the season whether it be to the Sharks to play under Fitzy or up on the Gold Coast. We can't keep them all but damn he has been a bloody solid player for the Chooks for so many seasons.

If he does move on, I wish him all the best for the future !

This would be extremely disappointing if true.

I was hoping he would retire a one club player. He's given us such great service and been so underrated for so long.

Still only 30yrs of age, plenty of good years ahead of him.

True however we won’t be able to match the offers that will come his way. Whilst I’ve always admired his playing ethics and appreciate his value to the team, I would not begrudge him a decent contract which may be his last in the NRL. Every team needs a Liu type of player in their pack. We had 2 of the best in Aubusson and Liu, and now have Radley at lock and Hutchinson to back up if needed( at a much cheaper price than Liu).

I'd hate to see Isaac leave but yeah, he deserves a big payday.

Let him finally get a payday with his last contract. He will go with our well wishes.

Hypothetically, if Cordner and Friend didn't retire, and we retained Liu/JWH/SST, then we would eventually get found out with five forwards over the age of 30. That does not mean that individually they are not champions. I just doubt that we hang onto those tight games in the last 20 mins of a game as we have in the past, especially with new rules.

We still have that problem with three of our middle forwards in that category. Unfortunately, Liu will be the one that misses out to SST and JWH.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I don't think there is room in the 17 for both Nat Butcher and Liu, both are too similar players and we have seen if they come on at the same time to replace JWH & TKO we lose a lot of go forward.

However both deserve to be playing NRL each week and Liu deserves a final big payday so this makes sense.

A wonderful servant to the club and a fine player.

                  But...

Losing an Isaac Liu at 30yrs of age to a big money offer after 8 years of tremendous service at great value and replacing him with another young bull coming through the grades for much less money - see a Fletcher Baker or Naufahu Whyte - is a quintessential Roosters/Storm move that has made both clubs so continuously successful.

Spend the big money in the key areas - the superstars in the spine and the leaders of the pack - and fill the gaps with the young kids coming through and the savy veteran signings.

Has been a great clubman but who could begrudge him a big fat contract to finish his career.

Completely agree. I love Isaac and hope he stays, but if one of the struggling clubs wants to pay him overs and give him a longer deal, let him go. He has been awesome for us but like you say, the way to go is developing the younger players coming trough - esp Nat Butcher.

No decision either way has been made.

Money maybe more but for whatever reason the Gold Coast don't seem to be a side able to play consistent footy year after year let alone in a 80 minute game.

It's the Footy version of the Bermuda Triangle the Gold Coast area-Teams from various codes, players , coaches etc are often not heard of or sighted again after a season or two.

All you need to look at is how many versions of a Gold Coast League team has there been - Seagulls . Giants . Chargers and now Titans including a few years out of the comp and the NRL taking the club over as well

Struggling in the AFL - Gold Coast Suns and Only payed a few seasons in the A League - Gold Coast United.

For some reason just not an area that will taste success in whatever footy code they play

The Titans must be exempt from the salary cap lol. That will be one expensive forward pack

In all seriousness, good luck to Issac getting a decent final contract. Has been a good hardworking no-nonsense servant.

If reports are true regarding the Sharks or Titans, both coaches come from the roosters coaching system, and know what they will get from Issac. And no reported issues off the field either.

We will continue to evolve. Some promising youngsters coming through. We don't get too many wrong with recruitment.
